noob warning.. $675 budget need help, advice, evaluation or comment on my upcoming build

Thread Starter
I have sold my rig what is 2 months old it has an Intel Core i3-2100 on it with and ECS H61H2-M2 motherboard because a forum answered that Intel core I3-2100 will bottleneck a HD 7850 which im planning to add, and i got scared so with that i sold it and hoping for this to be a much better upgrade and the GPU will be added later on.
Now I'm needing your help for evaluation or advice on much better parts for this build. i only put the link from newegg so it much easier for you to evaluate than the website or store that i will be purchasing.. just put in your input then i'll be just the one to match if it is available here, thanks very much.

Processor: Intel Core i5-3450 (3.1ghz) Ivy Bridge
Motherboard: Asrock H77M
Hard drive: 500gb Seagate Barracuda
Memory: RipJaws 8gb 1600
Optical Drive: Asus 24x 24B3ST sata
Casing: AeroCool StrikeX GT
PSU: Seasonic X-Series Full Modular 560w

and the GPU I will be adding later on will be a

Sapphire HD7850 OC version

Thanks guys your input will be highly much appreciated..

First off the links dont link to the products. Looks like a decent build, but if you're looking to not bottleneck future cards you should get a z77 mobo and a k chip[ so you can overclock it later on.

Yeah, ad john1016 said, get a k chip (unlocked multiplier) so you get good OC potential. What cooler are you planning to use? I suggest the Hyper 212 Plus, best bang for the buck. I use the Hyper 612 PWM, but the 212 shouldn't perform significantly worse.

ok im sorry my bad, im just new here, i will remove the links.. thats the thing i have no plan of overclocking or SLI or Crossfire because i have no knowledge of that, just want to have a rig that is powerful enough to play new or upcoming games in a Full HD 1920x1080 resolution..

I think you posted the links from you're saved wishlist which you can only do if it's a public wishlist.

Even if you don't overclock the k chip is worth it, if later on you're gpu gets bottlenecked (future generations of cards) than you can oc if wanted, but olso it will hold it's value much better then a non-k chip.

no knowledge of overclocking... well my friend you are in the right place wink.gif

I'd highly reccomend you read up a little on the subject, not only do you get more bang for your buck, overclocking(for me, and others) can be a pretty awesome hobby. its not that difficult and in my opinion, the benifits out weigh the risk.

Good luck with your build, this community helped me build both of my rigs and i have no complaints.

Don't worry, with the new k chips it's so easy easy that you could even PC it a decent 4.0 with the stock cooler and it won't get too toasty I'd you get a decent chips that needs little volts. I'm with them if you plan to look ahead having a k would easily last you longer than non k chip. Please note I'm not advising you do oc with stock cooler and would also recommend the hyper 212+ since I own it, but I've seen a few people OC with the stock cooler and while it maybe get toasty along as you're not pushing 4.2+ depending on volts you can keep it under high 80's with a decent case.

thanks for this inputs guys really an eye opener, my budget kinda limits me to what i really have and im afraid if i overclock im system i might damage it, and voids warranties.. thats why i choose h77 board instead of z77 board so overclock will be out of the question, and others says overclocking can be get addicted so i stay away from it lol.. so as for my current specs are okay? oveclocking will be set aside..

as for JozefH, i've read a lot for the last couple of months and research from tomshardware to newegg, intel i think has really the great cpu for gaming? that's just my opinion though im a noob and only knowledge of mine is through reading the internet

Hi,

A few notes:

1. It would be really helpful if you could put where you are from either in the OP or in your profile. With a location to go by, people can better know how to help you. For example, if you are from Italy, it would be pointless for members to post Newegg // NCIX links to good part deals

2. Will you be needing other peripherals or an OS?

3. What do you want to play with your system? At what resolution? If you're not gaming what purpose(s) do you have for it?

To be perfectly honest your old set up was just fine for most games, and whoever told you the i3 wasn't enough was probably also trying to tell you that you needed a 750W PSU for that system as well.

As for the build you posted in OP:

PSU - Skip the X-560. Yes it's a beautiful unit, but you could get by with much less. Pick an alternate from here to save some cash.

Case - The StrikeX GT is priced similar to many cases that come better equipped with fans, the Strike X only comes with the front and rear despite supporting many others. If you aren't dead set on the looks, Corsair, CoolerMaster, In-Win, Lian-Li/Lancool, NZXT, Thermaltake all have very capable offerings at this price point.
