My water cooling loop seems to be growing things.

Thread Starter
I built my water cooling setup about a year ago with advice from a friend online (who has since disappeared), Now I have started to notice that things are growing in the reservoir.

I'm using distilled water with biocide in it.

Not too sure on what it is or if it matters, so advice appreciated.

Thanks smile.gif

Is it the blue chunks of stuff? Looks like something is coming apart somewhere. Could be from the rad or maybe tubing. What color is your tubing?
That is from the inside of the radiator... i am guessing you never flushed it or if you did you didnt get the job done. could it have been there all along?

It's water deposits. You should have drained and refilled every few months. You'll have to flush your whole system out now, maybe even disassemble the waterblocks to clean them thoroughly, and replace your tubing. I bet your radiator is full of that stuff. Good luck.

Nope I havn't flushed it before. Sounds like fun \o/, is there nothing I can put in there to stop this kind of buildup from occuring?

Also, here's a better photo IMG_20120623_003549.jpg

No, that is the down side of water cooling. Have to do maintenance and clean the system every few months. Def replace your tubing and flush everything. Have you noticed changes in temps?

Not really, temps are still stable and boring as they always were, I only noticed it when I decided to mount the radiator on the back of my case. What's the procedure for flushing it out?

Unhook everything and then dump water through each piece until junk stops coming out. Some people use tap water, but I prefer a funnel and distilled water. Probably does not matter either way. I alos suggest using the primo chill pro flex lrt tubing. Not sure what you are using now.
After a while, the distilled water become just like normal water. Biocide wears off and organisms start growing. The water becomes contaminated and sediment starts forming inside your loop. There's a lot more to it, but you have no choice.

It needs to be cleaned on the inside, all of the deposits removed, and the tubing replaced. It won't take but a solid day to do.

You'll need the new tubing, lots of distilled water to rinse with, and I would suggest using distilled vinegar to soak and shake inside of your radiator. The waterblocks will need opened and scrubbed clean with vinegar as well.

After everything is spotless, rinse it all throughly with distilled water, and reassemble. Then you should be good to go.
