You've chose a good GPU, so hold what you've got there.

You might want to consider an i3-2120 instead of the i5-2500k. Naturally the i5 is much better, but the extra ~$100 is going to break your budget.

As for a PSU, I'll have to do some looking, but I don't think a standard ATX will fit in the ammo can. What are the dimensions?

Also, don't forget a copy of Windows!

very important things:

1.- size of the ammo box for parts selection

2.- screen resolution (gpu wise)

i will go for AT LEAST a quad core cpu, bf3 loves them... thumb.gif

Right now I'm sitting on like 559, so unless the PSU is crazily overpriced, I should be ok right? I mean The i5 is already factored into that pricing right now and what bumped me down was switching to that ram you suggested Kremtok. Reason I thought the I5 would probably be better is if I have enough to do it, why not? Plus wouldn't overclocking it be a possibility down the road?

I also forgot to mention that I have a 120gb SSD sitting in laptop I have so I'll be carrying that over to this machine and possibly selling off my old laptop on ebay to help pay for this machine.

For the case dimensions, I'm currently looking at the following

10"L x 3.5"W x 6-3/4"H

11"L x 5-1/2" W x 7" H

12"L x 7" W x 8-1/2"H

Good choice on mobo, ram, up to you on the CPU, I would get the 2500k, just because it will be more future proof, especially with overclocking. As for the card though, I think you should get a 7770, they are about the same price, maybe 5-10 dollars more than 550Ti, but check the performance:

700

Even a 6850 is a better choice it appears. Plus less power usage and heat If i remember. If you cant see the pic, here it is:

http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/350971-33-7770-6850-550ti

I realize the post is a few days old, but hope this helps thumb.gif

I was reading a review on the

ASRock Z77E-ITX that you couldn't OC i5

Heres a quote of what he was saying:
Quote:
Will not overclock a Sandy bridge 2500k (also bought here at the egg). Every time you try to manually change the multiplier it resets back to 33 stock. treats my 2500k like its a locked chip, even though it "see's" it as a 2500k (which it is).

I've flashed to the new bios, flashed back to the original bios, and yet it still the highest manual setting you can go is 37. (stock turbo-boost speed).

If I use the auto over clock to 4.0 feature it save the settings, but upon boot into windows its at normal settings.

I've updated the bios, changed the battery, reflashed old bios, reinstalled windows, reset again and again and unplugged for hours....no joy.

Emailed Asrock for help and got the standard (look on our forums for help ) response. Did that...but nobody has this issue. I'm starting to believe its a borked board.

Did this guy just happen to fail?

Kind of curious because the reason I'm purchasing this board is because I wanted to OC later down the road. I have no previous experience with ASRock or any of their products.

Also the case will be 13" tall, 11" long, and 5 5/8" wide so I made a google sketchup and it's kind of sketchy on certain areas, so I'll probably have to modify the case a wee bit but it's a good thing I work in a shop. smile.gif
post #16 of 27
Yes, that mobo OCs pretty well I hear. I think you got that review off newegg, so you should have seen another review, where the guy says he got his 2500k to like 4.8. I have the board, but haven't tried yet, due to being on stock cooling.

yeah that guy was trying to up the cpu multi, not the turbo multiplier. He probably had intel speedstep enabled which dynamically changes the frequency based on load

Looking forward to seeing your progress on this

If you go with the i3 and don't want wifi integrated on the board, save $50 and get this (it has basically all the features of the one you picked, minus OC ability and the MSATA/wifi card.
