that interested in is Battlefield. Anything else they choose to release on Origin I'll simply not buy.
Yes, I only play it on XBL now, and yes, I paid for it twice. It was a mistake to do so on my part.
Yes thats exactly what I said they did and they have or already will collect others from their other IP's. There isn't really a "might" about it tbh. EA isn't in the business because they dont sell games on a regular basis. Its obviously quite the opposite.
I could in the same way, ask you if that person who only has Steam installed due to Steamworks requiring them to have it installed will use Steam after they stop playing their Steamworks game? Who knows? Dark Souls will be a Steamworks game. Does a person who wants that game but doesn't have Steam installed want to install Steam, or are they simply trying to play Dark Souls?
What is very evident is that if there is another game they want to play that requires Steamworks, they're still going to be using Steam. Same for Origin.
As long as games that people want to play are released on the platform, this line of discussion is somewhat meaningless.
People want to play Battlefield.
People want to play The Sims.
People want to play Simcity.
People want to play C&C (and the upcoming generals game).
People want to play FIFA (the biggest sports title in the world)
And I'm sure there will be many more to come. It would actually be somewhat dim to suppose otherwise.
There are many more people who value their ability to play these games than there are that value brand loyalty, constant sales, the principles of a corporation or just general whathaveyou that you'll find on a nerd filled tech/gaming site.
What I find interesting in terms of certain areas of Steam, is that people put so much value into games that people generally dont
really want to play as such in terms of not finding it worthy to buy in the first place, but may feel enticed to do so if its made part of a huge sales event that gets the people buzzing with excitement.
Not saying that sales do not give people opportunities to buy games that they did generally have a real hankering for (that obviously happens), just find it interesting regarding the pyschology of certain price points and marketing/hype methods of sales causing such itchy "click to buy" mouse fingers which lead to overly large libraries of games collecting dust on a digital shelf.
When people like Good Old Games or EA mention anything like this and how Steams study in sales in ways takes advantage of certain psychological behaviours of people and their love to buy things for cheap, they get urinated on and nobody even stops for a second to think.
However, the reality is always there regardless of peoples inability to accept it:
Should Valve care about your (massive) Steam backlog?Quote:
Um, what?
You people like buying a lot of games you'll never play, that's your problem.
And I do mean "problem."
Quote:
the size of a backlog is irrelevant to a person that actually has a backlog, as those people have a case of extreme hoarding whether they like to admit it or not

If you bought a game for $5 and never played it, you were never going to buy that game at full price. They got money from you that they weren't going to get otherwise.
Having that game from 2003 sitting in your Steam library unplayed isn't going to stop you from buying Half-Life 3.
So I don't think they really care.

they do care and they want you to have a backlog. you having a backlog is basically you giving money directly to gabe for no reason.
Its almost a self contained and fully accepted (yet dimissed and denied) culture within the Steam community lol!
Discussion like this in certain communities *cough*OCN*cough* is almost taboo, however there is a reality there that GoG and EA have brought up, but get treated like they're making up rubbish.
Even to the point where the arguments begin to amount the equivalent of "GoG and EA are just mad that they cant also efficiently extract money out of me so regularly and many times meaninglessly while also making me feel awesome about it!!"
