Sandforce.

Nice.

Though, this is from the Air. It seems that I may have had the two mixed up.

as for whether it is overpriced, it seems to me like a good value for what it is. in fact, it makes previous macbook pros look really overpriced in comparison. but for my purposes, i don't really need the best screen out there, i just need something that more or less works. the battery life, weight, and form factor are definitely a plus though
lg and samsung both make some of the best screens out there, so it seems like a win-win to me. though i guess id probably prefer lg slightly

Again, I'll reiterate that Amazon is selling the 15" NP700Z5C right now. http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Series-NP700Z5C-S01US-15-6-Inch-Laptop/dp/B0083S3OWW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1340478734&sr=8-1&keywords=samsung+np700z5c

It's not on Samsung's US site, but here it is on their Canada site. http://www.samsung.com/ca/consumer/office/mobile-computing/notebook/NP700Z5C-S01CA-spec

Some more proof, people actually using the NP700Z5C already. http://forum.notebookreview.com/samsung/658603-samsung-series-7-lovers-heres-np700z5c-ivy-bridge-45.html

A friend of mine already has his Retina MBP and I spent some time playing around with it. That screen is absolutely ridiculous, I spend a lot of time reading on the computer and I immediately noticed how sharp and easy to read the text is and that, along with the wide viewing angles, would be worth the price of admission if I didn't prefer using a desktop. The lighter chassis and faster hardware are just nice bonuses if you ask me.

I'm actually considering selling both my desktop and laptop and getting a Retina MBP but I'm waiting to see if Haswell is really as revolutionary as Anand and other tech writers have been saying it will be.

HD 4000 graphics ("GT2") has 16 EUs. Haswell graphics ("GT3") will have 40 EUs. 2.5x the performance. That would put it within maybe 20% of Nvidia 650M...

..and you'd get that graphics performance in any old $800 Ultrabook (Zenbook Prime with Haswell GT3, anyone?).

Very poor and biased review. Did not compare performance to other devices outside of charts that Apple typically shines in - display categories. Battery life is garbage for this kind of device - as expected. Outside of how attractive the display and chassis is, this machine really does...suck. Heck, it's practicaly a blade crap.

Can't wait for the price to come down and availability to spread to other models and manufacturers. 15" is still too large of a notebook for me, but a 13" display would be fantastic.

My big complaints about Apple, though, are very unlikely to go away with the next generation of notebooks:

1) Proprietary SSD. I don't really mind the 2.5" SSD model we've all gotten used to. More drive availability is good for everyone, especially corporate users.

2) No optical drive. I don't use mine, but I do remove the optical drive and mount a second 2.5" SSD there (so this ties into the first complaint). Apple's sacrificing my second drive to get a thinner profile.

That's why I'm trying to wait for Haswell but I keep using my friend's Retina MBP and it's just so much nicer. All I really use my laptops for is typing and reading so performance doesn't matter to me, I have a monster of a gaming PC for when I need to do anything intensive or play some games.

Ideally they would put this nice screen in a lower end computer and that's what I think Haswell will allow them to do if its integrated graphics is so powerful, the perfect laptop for me would be something as thin and light as an Air with this type of pixel density since I don't need a discrete GPU. I think in a year or two the Air will have a retina screen.

i like your objective perspective

ms releases another x86 tablet with similar specs to current x86 tablets: "this is revolutionary"

apple releases a new laptop with the longest lasting battery in any laptop and highest resolution ever: "this thing is crap and has crap battery life"
