That adds weight and bulk. My T61 weighed about 4.5 lbs with the 4 cell, but with the 9 cell it weighed in at over 6 pounds. Even my 12.1" X220 tablet weighs more than the retina MBP once I put the 8-cell extended battery in.

The retina MBP's ability to get 7 hours of battery life while driving a 2880x1800 screen is very impressive. Even more impressive is the fact that it only weighs 4.4 lbs.

doh.gif Can we just stick to facts? the W520 comes with a 9-cell standard. The Macbook Pro 15 has a similar battery capacity, at 95Whr (vs. ~90-95Whr of the W520). perfectblade simply stated the MBP 15 has the highest battery life of any laptop, and I simply provided a rebuttal. Nothing more, nothing less.

But since we're at it, quoted from here: http://www.laptopmag.com/review/laptops/lenovo-thinkpad-x220.aspx
Quote:
At 12 x 9.1 x 1.25 inches and 3.6 pounds (with a nine-cell battery), the ThinkPad X220 is extremely light and thin, ...

Ok, let's stick to the facts. The W520 with a 9 cell also weighs 6.2 pounds. The retina MBP weighs 4.4. The retina MBP is also driving a screen with 2.5 times the resolution of the optional 1080P screen in the W520.

And I quoted the numbers for the X200 tablet, which weighs almost 4 lbs with the extended battery.

Why even argue about battery life? At it's weight class and size, it has the best battery life.

Retina display is gorgeous, that alone is worth it.

^Don't get me wrong, battery life for its size and features is great. I just have a problem with people making erroneous claims such as "longest battery life" (go back a page, you'll find them..).

Which proves that the Macbook Pro 15 has higher battery life than the W520? rolleyes.gif In case you didn't realize where this got completely sidetracked, someone said the Macbook Pro 15 w/ Retina Display has the longest battery life, and I (again,) simply stated it does not.

And tell me which number is greater, 4 pounds or 4.4 pounds? I quite clearly recall you stating the X200 tablet with extended battery (4 pounds) weighs more than the Macbook Pro 15 w/ Retina (4.4 pounds)..

With regards to the X200 tablet, that was a typo, and I've corrected my post in an edit.

The point is, the retina MBP has the best battery life in its class. The W520 is not comparable to the MBP in terms of weight, so why even take it into account? You seem to be trying very hard to find reasons not to like the MBP. rolleyes.gif If it's not in your price range or doesn't fit your specific needs, that's fine, but you can't deny the fact that it's an impressive piece of hardware.

Last time I'll mention it, someone said the Macbook Pro w/ retina display had the "longest lasting battery". It does not. That's all there was to the argument. I did not even in the slightest imply the nonsense you're arguing against, such as-

-W520 being in the same weight class (of course it isnt)
-W520 having as high res a display
-W520 being anywhere near as thin as the MBPR

I know it's tempting to attack some random tangential non-point so you can win an argument, but I'd rather stick to the spirit of the content than nitpicking non-points that I never even tried to make. Heck, I didn't even say the MBPR is a bad system!

I guess I could have phrased that better, but weight and battery life go hand in hand. We could all carry around 20 lb batteries that last for days, but it wouldnt be that practical. The resolution is relevant because it affects battery life.

I guess I should have said "the lightest 95whr battery 15" notebook"
