[Scratch Build] Acrylic Media Center Case - Cover, buttons etc. [Pic Heavy]

I currently have a media center PC that works just fine, but it looks very sad. So my plan is to make it into something nice looking that I don't have to hide smile.gif

I could just buy a case and get it over with, but I've decided I want to have a go at making a nice case.

This is the plan so far:

I will re-use as many parts from my old media center PC as possible, it's no power house, but it works fine. It's powered by an AMD Athlon x64 x2 6000+

While I do have an extra GPU card, I think I will just use the integrated GPU. It does video without any problems in 1080 and got an HDMI out.

And it will of course feature one of my little display controllers on the front smile.gif

Plan is to make the case primarily out of acrylic (painted, not transparent), the bottom plate will probably be aluminium though.

This is the current case, don't worry, it's hidden behind a curtain, not sure what I was thinking when I bought it originally biggrin.gif (it was my main PC a long time ago)

As is obvious, it's not really something to show off in a home theater setup:

And inside, some cleaning to be done (I hacked a 120mm fan onto the CPU cooler, the original 5-6000 RPM fan sounds horrible.

The CPU cooler, I kind of forgot how power hungry/hot running these AMD processors are

I'll need to find some more permanent solution to the CPU cooler fan. I'm thinking about fitting the one that came with my i7 CPU, should be possible and it will fit better than the current one. I need to keep it low profile.

I had some expert advise while looking at it biggrin.gif .. I think the conclusion was that it's possible, or maybe it was just that there are no cheezburgers in the case biggrin.gif

Anyway, this is where most of the parts will come from.

LOL biggrin.gif

I'm thinking flat black, but I might change my mind and do something more adventurous.

Quick 3D sketch of what I hope to make it look like:

I'm aiming for clean lines.

I might try to get mr one to do a design for the front plate for some back lit awesomeness (hint hint biggrin.gif)

Something like the design sketch he did for my GPU backplate on other build, but probably in a different style:
