In my budget, I have three different options -- the i7-2700K, the i7-3770K, and the i7-3820. I can pair them up with either the Maximus V Gene or the Rampage IV Gene (depending on socket compatibility, 1155 for former and 2011 for latter), and the total price for each way is about 480 bucks. Here's my comparisons:
Choice a.): i7-2700K
Price tag: 279.99 (Micro Center)
Pros:
-Has 95W TDP, lower than the 3820 but higher than 3770K
-Awesome overclocker
-Unlocked multiplier
-Integrated GPU (if GPU fails, can use integrated for time being)
Cons:
-Almost EOL product
-Not much to upgrade after
-Kinda expensive
Choice b.): i7-3770K
Price tag: 289.99 (Micro Center)
Pros:
-Has 77W TDP, lower than all other processors listed
-Unlocked multiplier
-Newest revision of Intel's integrated GPU
Cons:
-Expensive
-Not as easy of an overclocker as Sandy Bridge
-No more upgrade paths after this
Choice c.): i7-3820
Price tag: 229.99 (Micro Center)
Pros:
-Feature-packed X79 chipset
-Cheap
-Ivy Bridge - Extreme upgrade path
-Somewhat easy overclocking with BCLK strap
Cons:
-Locked multiplier (though can overclock through BCLK strap)
-Processor name doesn't sound as awesome (no K! D:)
-Most power consumption
Main usage: Gaming, editing video (Sony Vegas Pro 11), multitasking
Which processor do you think is best?
