nothing less than 10 cores...? I don't know if I believe that... Intel jumping from 4 mainstream cores to 10 is pretty wild and a huge leap.

It would be more accurate to call it server architecture. X58 and X79 were both solutions derived from server platforms for mainstream use, though X79 ended up being more neutered on the SATA front than expected. Either way, this new stuff looks very promising.

Ah my bad I didn't see it was server arch. So by that logic I would assume mainstream Intel chips will start 6 core for 2500k equivalent?

we havent even gotten to 8c/16t for HEDT and already people think 6c/12t will be mainstream??

Why though? Are you saying that Haswell will STILL have 4 cores be the mainstream...? I mean... We have had 4 cores since Core2Duo and that is 65nm fab. Now we are entering 22 and we still have the same core count...? I don't follow. I guess the better question to ask is why you think there will NOT be a 6 core/12 thread as mainstream for Haswell.
