I'm having a very strange issue, and cannot seem to find a solution.
I switched back to a 2x2 Mushkin ram kit (7-9-7-24 @ 1.65v) and used the 2x4 for another machine. This particular Mushkin 2x2 kit has ran 6-8-6-18-1T @ 1.7v for months without issue on my GA-790X-UD4P. I upgraded to a 890FXA-UD7 and now the ram will not even run at the stock timings.
I traced it down to the DDR VTT voltage. The "Normal" voltage is 0.750v (1.5v), which is incorrect for my 1.65v kit. I need to run 0.825v (1.65v) to run at stock timings. The only catch is, I cannot raise the DDR VTT voltage AND the DDR Voltage at the same time.
I can raise the DDR VTT to 0.825 only if the DDR Voltage is left at "Normal". If I raise the DDR Voltage to anything other than "Normal", the DDR VTT voltage grey's out, and returns to 0.750v. I've also tried setting the DDR VTT voltage, saving, rebooting and then raising DDR Voltage but I get the same problem.
