GTX 670 sli issues...

Thread Starter
Just recently bought 2 EVGA GTX 670s FTW editions and I'm getting very mixed results when I'm in sli. In games like Metro 2033 and even in the Heaven benchmark, I'm getting the fps I should be getting. But in games like BF3, Batman: AC, Crysis 2 and hell even the original Crysis, I'm getting the same frames as I would with 1 670. (In Batman AC's case, sli makes the fps drop even more) I have had this issue before with my 460s in sli but that was with a really crappy cpu. I solved that issue by buying an i-7 2600k @ 3.4Ghz about a year ago. I have tested both cards on their own and both run just fine. But when I put them in sli, most of my games run the same as they would by themselves, or run a little worse. I have installed multiple drivers and am currently running on the latest ones. Any ideas on what the issue could be?

Specs:
Intel Core i-7 2600k@3.4Ghz
2 EVGA GTX 670s FTW
8 gigs of DDR3 memory @1600Mhz
240 Gig SSD
1 TB HDD 7200 RPM
1050 watt PSU

Is SLI enabled in the nvidia CP?
Use the latest beta drivers. Follow my install guide.
And replace or reseat the SLI bridge.
Are you getting usage on both your cards in game???
Try overclocking the CPU to around 4.5Ghz.

Sli is enabled in the CP
I am using the newest beta drivers right now
I will try replacing the sli bridged
I am getting usage with both cards in all games
I have no clue how to overclock a cpu and dont think the stock fan will cut it even if i did try overclocking it tongue.gif

Your CPU might be bottlenecking the GPU's so I would start a new thread on asking for help to OC the CPU, even if you are on stock fan.

Yeah, but its the only thing i can think of seen as we've ruled out driver issues.
Can you take a print screen of your CPU and GPU usage please? use task manager and MSI AB for this. Run a DX11 game max out with SLI on and all features on the game. Make sure you run at your highest resolution.
Also download GPU-Z and check the speed of your PCI-E slots. Check this for both cards, whilst running a game. are your cards even in the correct slots? Am sure they are, just trying to rule out things.

make sure all nvidia CP settings are on default and set physix to the first GPU.

well tbh, i dont think that the CPU is bottlenecking the GPU's , must be something else, maybe try to flash the bios?

It sounds to be most definitely a bottle necking issue, especially if the processors clock speed is fluctuating with Intel Speed Step enabled by default. It may be time to start learning how to overclock your i7-2600k a bit.

Can the i7 really be a bottleneck? I was planning on using a 2500k with sli 670s....

Why would speedstep cause the CPU to run slower than Max under load?

It's a possibility, But to rule out that it's not software or other component related, I would suggest doing what Bradley advised.
Speed step underclocking the processor is an add-on to bottlenecking. Aside already running at stock clock speeds even at max cpu load, there are occasions when the processor can fluctuate clock speeds.
