No sir my 970 i7 is a trooper. Plus I never left it overclocked 24/7. It was only OC for testing purposes. Stable at 5Ghz for gaming but not stress testing. I beat Crysis 2 all the way through at 5Ghz water cooled. The nice thing about gulftown which the 970 i7 is, is that it doesnt down throttle until after it hits 100C. 3960x down throttles at 96c and 3930k at 86c. Main reason why I got the 3960x... My 970 i7 never really reached those temps except during stress testing and only for a few seconds until the fans kicked in on high on the radiator. I will be selling them on craigslist and ebay. cpu ram and mobo still a great system but I want to experiment further... Thanks for your input guys.

Can any of you post your bios settings for 4.5 ghz with an I7 970?
I am running my I7 970 at 4.1 ghz on a asus rampage III extreme mobo and just put it under water, so I need a few pointers to increase my oc.

Thanks

not much to it bro jsut increase blk max multi and voltage as high as you can and away you go its all touch adn go with your chip every one is different
post #57 of 58
So thats it, just increase the 3 parameters? : CPU Voltage, blk and multi? Multi is at 23 and blk 178 at the moment with cpu voltage 1.25.

Its super easy bro. i had the formula board so its very similar to yours. put the overclock to 3.6 crazy. then increase bclk and downclock your ram ratio if needed. I wouldnt go over 4.5 ghz for 24/7 use. Auto Settings should be fine for gaming but if it crashes go and increase the voltage up to 1.45 if needed. I think 1.35v should be plenty at 4.5 ghz by auto settings. You may need to enable manual mode. Also increase multi to 23 first thing you should do.

You will see a huge benefit from overclocking to 4.5Ghz and beyond in these games at max settings and this includes vsync: serious sam 3 bfe, crysis, crysis warhead, crysis 2, GTA 4 and its series, Postal 3, Saints row the third and there are others but these are some off the top of my head. Also you will need SLi for some of these games as well.

I have since upgraded to the 3960x and formula iv board. Not really a huge difference in performance in games when overclocking the 970 i7 or 3960x. Video editing is a different story smile.gif
