But you would want to look at one with decent cooling, such as the cards from Sapphire, MSI, Asus, or XFX that have better coolers than the reference cards.

hmmm the site i use just went down, maybe when it comes back up the prices on stuff will be lower (usually what tends tohappen with these guys, hope it is!)

Actually both the 7950 and 7970 are single-gpu cards.
I can relate to the wife not being happy about the purchase, I know that mine never is:D
Whichever card you buy, it does have to be within your budget, of course. The prices in my location on the 7950 and 7970's have dropped a lot since introduction, and I'm seeing some good sale prices where the price is as much as $120 off. That is how I was able to afford to get a 7950, without being in the doghouse:D

That's in Euros, right?
$199eur = $256cad in my currency.
Interestingly, I just checked at the retailer I bought my card from, and the 7850's are going for about $259, almost the same price!
If that's in your budget, it sounds like a good deal for a 7850, which will be a nice upgrade.

Thanks for helping me out here, the 7850 looks like it will most likely be my upgrade.

THe only way i can pull off the 7900 series is if I sell enough of my old stuff haha... I doubt I'll get enough for that though.

Well I have this other idea from before.
I can't really afford to just go out and buy a 7950 or a 7970

and
Since my board is not optimized for 2x crossfire, but it is for 3x crossfire.
what if I bought 2x 7770s now
and bought a 3rd one in august
and Run them in 3x crossfire?

how would it perform?

lol at that rate i might actually just be able to pick up a 7950,
which would performe better?
3x 7770
or
1x 7950

7850 is a decent card, overclocks very well and is power efficient too. I would go with the single card instead of a weird trio, xfire and sli come with many problems; stability issues, driver issues and game support issues. About the performance difference you would experience; 6850 gets 27fps on BF3 ultra 1080p settings, while a stock 7850 gets 43fps, for comparison; GTX 570 gets 50fps under same settings.

Ok I'll stick to either the 7850 or the 7950 then,

just have to see the wife's reaction when i tell her about the 120€ diffrence between the 2 .p

Ok guys,

I think in the end I might have enough money to buy the 7950...
The only thing that is holding me back now is fear of the possibility of a new gen card.

Meaning I go spend 320€ on my nice new shiney 7950 and then 2 months later some new generation card comes out... leaving me like this -_-

Am I in risk of this happening at the moment if I buy that card?
