If the 670 you're considering is anything like the reference 680, then the 670 will run cooler, quieter, and have better drivers. I'd go with the 670.

Also, as for the vram. I ran SLI 680s with 2gb of vram at 5760x1080 with 2k res pack modded skyrim, among other things without any significant issues. At 1080p you're not going to notice a difference.

I went with the Asus DirectCU II GTX 670. I think the 7970 is the better card, but by such a slim margin that I can't justify spending $40-$60 just for a stock reference card. Plus the fact that the 670 actually out performs the 7970 in some benchmarks. I feel I made the right choice, I am getting a great non-reference design in the DirectCU II and hopefully I will be able to push this card to 1300Mhz

I was stuck between a 670 FTW and a 7970 dcII. I really wish i would of went with the 7970 sometimes just because i wonder how it would do and it would match my system much better.
Dont get me wrong i am VERY happy with my card but idk..

i say the 670 its quieter cooler and uses less power and will work well with the res, dont get me wrong the 7970 is still a monster, but it dose better in higher res and a oc 670 will run cool, quite, and stable
