If you never got into L4D1 then you won't notice but if you're an avid fan of the original the second just sucked in comparison. In the original the characters were more likeable and the levels seemed more focused. The second just seemed like a cash grab to me - a new $50 game with no real content added. Last I played they ported a lot of maps from the original to L4D2 but honestly I just uninstalled it after less than 2 hours of playing time. I felt like I was forcing myself to play it because I had already spent the money.

So yea, there is no reason to buy both because L4D maps have been ported over to the sequel. I never played Fallout NV but Fallout 3 was on of the best games ever made. People who don't like it either a) don't like RPG's or b) were upset that it wasn't like Fallout 1 & 2. Like anything else, these are just my opinions. I'd gladly elaborate if you're curious about anything.
