Computer randomly stops working.

Thread Starter
Hi All,

Recently my computer( i5 2500k OC 4.2 GHz, 16 Gb ram, SSD smart response and GTX 560 Ti) randomly stops responding and strange pixel configurations appear, I am then forced to restart. This occurs mainly when the computer is at idle.

My first thoughts are that this is a HDD failure although I don't think this would explain the strange shapes of what appear to be dead pixels.
I have updated the graphics card drivers and down clocked the CPU to its original config.
Any thoughts or advice on this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Neakz

It could be that your GPU is on it's way out or possibly overheating.

What mobo do you have? and do you experience the graphic glitches with onboard video (if available)?

Sounds like a gpu overheating. Ideally some info on the system specs you have would be beneficial in helping us analyse what is going on.
Use the Rigbuilder to aid you while you wait for a response, try running without the side panel of the case on this should allow the GPU to get some extra air. Hopefully this is the issue.

Completed the Rigbuilder, Don't think it would be graphics card as this only happens when the system is idling (youtube), and the max temp on my card was ~ 75C my CPU also stays below ~50C on full load. I have had driver issues with the SSD in smart response in the past.

If it only happens in YouTube then it could very well be the GPU. I have had all kinds of issues with Flash and hardware acceleration in the past. Try turning off Hardware acceleration in flash settings and see if that helps.

Like someone said in another post if your MB has a DVI out try that and see if you get the same problem.
