Overclock i7 860, which motherboard??

Thread Starter
Hi
I have dell vostro 430 which comes with i7 860 processor. And dell motherboard. After reading a
Lot of forum I have found out that it is not possible to Overclock an OEM CPU. So I am considering changing to a motherboard so that I can Overclock my CPU.

Currently I have antec water cooling installed. So cpu temp is around 25c.

Can anyone give a suggestion how to Overclock and which motherboard to chose. Do I need a powerful power supply to the stock one?

Do you have a price range for the board?? Personally I like Asus boards and thats really all I buy, but having that being said ASrock is making some amazing boards on a budget.

Your processor is a LGA 1156, I would look at the marketplace on OCN for a good deal on one of those boards, currently Intel is trying to phase out that socket and buying a new one of those boards is pretty hard

Edit: As for the best overclocking chipset, look into the P55, those are the best for overclock and they have the most features, it was probably the chipset most widely used on 1156

Ok..If you get that..be sure to have another working computer handy..and download all the drivers onto..something
(flash drive/hard drive) It may have no I/o shield..but hey..if it works,it works biggrin.gif
A motherboard installation requires screwing 9 screws..hooking up the 24-pin power + 8 pin power..that's about it.OOpps..and the power button..be sure to get that right biggrin.gif
Link to mobo you're looking at=?

Its on the supported list on Asus.com, I would not be worried. Not haaving the accesories sometimes can suck but all your really missing is the drivers disc, some SATA cables, and the instructions manual, and that can be found online but with OCN, destruction manuals aren't really necessary

Ok. I ordered it today. Will be here in a couple of days. Let's see what happens afterwards.
Damn you ordered already..
I'm sorry to say but i'm pretty sure that prebuild pc from dell usally comes with crap power supply and decent GPU, not best though.
So it's up to you if you wanna risk it? I guees you know what happens if PSU blows up..
