GTX 670 or 7950? - Page 5

Go with the GTX 670, it trumps the previous 7970 without overclocking and is only 4% slower than an overclocked 7970 Ghz edition (when overclocked itself)

Hmmm right now it looks like the 670 FTW is $420 (410 After rebate), while the MSI 7950 TFIII is $360 ($340 AR). At those prices, which one is the better deal?

I would take the HD 7950 OC even if it were priced similar. but thats just me. here are a couple of good options.

http://www.amazon.com/Gigabyte-Mini-Displayport-PCI-Express-Graphic-GV-R795WF3-3GD/dp/B007581QHG/

http://www.amazon.com/Sapphire-PCI-Express-version-Graphics-11196-10-40G/dp/B0082D58P4/

the sapphire card has a few things going for it which other cards don't have. uses a ref HD 7970 PCB with 8 pin + 6 pin power. Dual BIOS with 2nd BIOS for aggressive overclocking.

Ths MSI card has the price edge. so pick any one you like.thumb.gif

Because of my case limitations, I think i would have to go with the xfx black edition DD or the MSI TFIII, although the sapphire looks nice, it's just .3" too long.

The 670 vs 7950 really boils down to what games you play. As far as those brands you listed, I would stick with MSI for warranty reasons.

Edit: But most of the reading shows the 670 will out perform the 7950. Even with an OC. Not sure how it is with the latest drivers.

BF3, Skyrim, L4D2, Witcher 2, Arkham Asylum/city, Crysis 1/2, and I'm looking forward to GW2. It seems that my preferences seem to span the majority of games tested in benchmarks

Edit: although Nvidia has PhysX, which I've never used so I dont know if it's really useful

BF3 and Skyrim was shown by a lot of websites to run way better on nvidia and those other games were somewhat close. I bought my 680 mostly because of that.

I'm having trouble deciding if the 670 FTW is worth the extra 60 dollars and if it will last at least 2 years, and with the possibility of upgrading to 1440p from 1080

At stock speeds the 670 is better overall, and it also overclocks insanely. There's really no competition here! it would be worth it even if it was $100 more.

True.
While a lot of people say an OC'd 7950 will match a 670, OCs are not necessarily something to rely on.
