Also, as far as i've heard, a GTX670 will, on average, overclock further than a 7950. I would understand if you were comparing it to a 7970, but the 670 is so far ahead of the 7950.
Edit: i spent many days researching all of my options before settling on my 670.

Skyrim
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/radeon-hd-7970-ghz-edition-review-benchmark,3232-10.html

HD 7950 (800 Mhz) is close to GTX 670 ( 915 / 980 ) at 1080p. HD 7950 at 900 Mhz will be easily faster than GTX 670 . HD 7950 (1150 Mhz) will be easily faster than GTX 670 (1250 Mhz).

http://techreport.com/articles.x/23150/7

2560 x 1600 Ultra 8XAA + FXAA
HD 7950 (900 Mhz) - 86
GTX 670 AMP (1098/1176) - 85

Given the large OC headroom HD 7950 at 1150 Mhz will easily defeat a GTX 670 at 1250 Mhz.

Do you think the 670 will be limited by its 2GB and memory bandwidth in the next 2 years?

Only if you game above 1080. I think it will be more limited by the speed that next generation games require before the memory will be an issue.

clock for clock HD 7950 is close to HD 7970 as the GTX 670 is close to GTX 680. Here is a HD 7950 OC (900 Mhz) OC'd to 1200 Mhz compared to HD 7970 (925 Mhz)

http://www.hardocp.com/article/2012/03/01/xfx_radeon_hd_7950_black_edition_video_card_review/8

Even HD 7950 (900 Mhz ) is close to HD 7970 (925 Mhz). HD 7950 (1200) easily surpasses HD 7970

A HD 7950 (1150 Mhz) is faster than GTX 670 (1250 Mhz ) when you compare a wide range of games.

But honestly how much should I rely on the ability of the 7950 to overclock well. It is a silicon lottery

That and nvidia is still #1 in the BF3 and Crysis 2 department and Skyrim is just pretty even. Just basing off the reviews he keeps linking.

Yes maybe clock for clock it's better...but the 670 is clocked HIGHER. this is completely irrelevant!
Edit: i actually haven't heard that it's better clock for clock, do you have any evidence?

To be honest I just want BF3 at 60 FPS at whatever settings that requires in MP (low to high, whatever). But I would really like to be able to run Skyrim at ~60 with mods (high res textures/ENB, etc). I would like my single player games as pretty and immersive (FPS wise) as possible. And my multiplayer games at ~60FPS
post #60 of 121
I get minimum: ~90fps at maximum settings in bf3 (1080p) with anti aliasing and everything at full. Maybe you would be better off with a 580 if that's all you want, or wait for the 660.
