The difference between the HX and TX series are the cable options (e.g. number of SATA devices supported, molex, PCIe, etc.).

I just ran out of time to explain it because I just realized I have to make a quick trip to the store before they close, so for now compare their modularity very carefully. The modular TX series is almost half as modular.

There's also the Antec TruePower New series which is another good example that I can recall. I know there are others, but I'm rusty.

Anyway, I'll be back in a while. If I leave now, then have about 30 minutes to shop and get out before they close up on me. smile.gif

So a 5400rpm and 7200rpm will work at the same speed? I would think when u r uploading data too it the 7200rpm will write data to it quicker. Then again, he's not transferring 10GB at a time, more like 10MB.
Your right, the 5400rpm will work just the same.......

256gb is way too big. Inventor claims the build only requires 60-120gb.

Ok, no one has liked my suggestion of using two old 520's in SLI to run 3 monitors. So i will take the hint. What I want to know is why? Just so I understand more, not like questioning your advice. It's foolish to ask for advice, then not take it....lol

I have a thought or plan for this rig, so I'm going to try and explain it. If I'm off my rocker please let me know my train of thought is going in the wrong direction....

What ever I build, it won't be touched until the rig dies. My Dad won't upgrade, change bios, or re do any settings. So to future proof this would be a waste. He will use it until it simply won't preform anymore.

So.....since this will be used for 1 main program and constant viewing of pics and data wouldn't this rig be better suited to spend most of the budget on ram and SSD? I'm thinking of getting a good to really good i5 (i'll try to OC it) and very reliable and stable MoBo but with out all the extra bells and whistles. This rig is going to quite bare, 1 SSD, 1 drive, 1 vid card. Pretty empty.
I'm also thinking of maxing out the ram now. i know it would be cheaper to buy 8GB now, and in a year or so to add another 8GB but I don't see that happening. I don't think my Dad would do it. Also if I OC then the settings would completely change and he doesn't know anyone to fix them. The cost of shipping the rig back and forth would cost more than the savings of the ram.

Does anyone have experience or strong opinions of ASUS MoBo's? His is working great for 6+ years, I have only heard good things about their reliability. I have also been out of the game for a long time and basically know nothing all over again....lol.

So far all the suggestions have been great and I know a few items I'm strongly interested in. As far as the SSD, I like the OCZ (4) because it's suppose to be the fastest. What conserns me is the neg reviews at newegg. The people who said they "tested" say it doesn't perform as advertised. Is there an OCZ rep on here that can rebut this?

I have a few cases in mind. I'll list those a bit later to get opinions on build quality and stuff like that. They are all plain and are more functional than anything. 1 big feature I'm looking at is USB 3.0 for the front ports. I like that 20 pin USB connector so there isn't a cord hanging out the back. It's going to be air cooled and most likely close to stock so I don't have a bunch of fans, quieter the case the better.

I really like all the other "help me posts". It's cool to see all the other suggested rigs are not copies. I hadn't seen 1 suggested rig match another persons.

EDIT:
Ok thinking about his current build. I installed an already out of date vid card when I first built it. Right now I think that's the issue he is having. win 7 has killed his rig. Since that upgrade (had to) its been running slow. So I don't want to do that again.....
I was thinking of getting a PCI Express 3.0 card (cheapest) and seeing how that turns out. I really don't want a fan, I like having a fan less in this build. I went to the egg and came up with this.....
HIS HD7750.

So I have to ask, how do u actually hook up 3 monitors? Should I look for a card with 3 ports that work at the same time? Google has not helped me one bit. This seems like most people don't use 3 monitors. I was under the impression that a card would have 3 HDMI ports or something like that.

found out that the current HD is 66GB full. so i guessing a 128GB SSD would be perfect. there was also a request to be able to watch Blu-Ray movies and still be able to burn DVD roms. after doing a quick check Blu-ray Rom + DVD burner = Blu-ray burner. so i'll stick with the orginal suggestion of the Lite-On 12x burner. normally i would go for the 14x burner over the 12x, but i am unsure of LG products when it comes to media burners. plus i also perfer Lite-on. smile.gif
i also found out my dad would prefer a quieter case so the suggestion by Jackofhearts for the Corsair case was awesome! it's a bit pricer than what i was budgeting for, but with his other suggestions, he made it work.
i'll post the entire build suggestions once we figure out the GPU.
thanks to all for the help! i couldn't have done it without all the help.thumb.gif

As far as i know Intel HD 4k can output to 3 monitors at the same time and it comes stock standard with any K series ivy bridge processor and some core i3's and all core i7's, So the need for a dedicated gpu is kind of moot here.

Can't take much credit for any of this. Jackofhearts really helped me dial this in.

CASE: Corsair Obsidian Series 550D
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811139012
Very sexy case. Noise reduction was requested. Has USB 3.0 front ports. Painted inside and out. Removable racks. Perfect match!

CASE FANS: XIGMATEK eXTREME SILENT XSF-F1452 140mm (X4)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835233086
Going to OC and wanted additional cooling. I may replace the stock 120mm with one of these. I think i will add 2 to top and 1 to bottom. Leave the sides alone.

MoBo: ASRock Z75 Pro3 LGA 1155 Intel Z75
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157304
Has everything I need. Highly recommend.

CPU: Intel Core i5-3570K Ivy Bridge 3.4GHz
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116504
I hope I can OC this to 4.0GHz without increasing volts too much.

CPU cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103099
Most recommend cooler I saw.

RAM: Mushkin Enhanced Blackline 16GB (2 x 8GB)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820226316
Want 32GB but super overkill. This is overkill but this system is more dependent on ram.

GPU: XFX Double D Radeon HD 7750 Black Edition
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150611
Cheap. PCI 3.0. Supports 3 monitors. Like having 2 DVI (no adapters needed - extra cost)

SSD: OCZ Vertex 4 128GB
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227791
Fastest SSD at price point. Just the right amount of storage (currently using 66GB).

Drive: LITE-ON 12x blu-ray burner
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827106369
Wanted to be able to burn DVD's AND watch Blu-Ray movies. This cost the same as 1 DVD burner and 1 Blu-Ray rom.

PSU: Seasonic SS-560KM
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817151098
Gold cert. full mod. Quiet/ silent.

External HD: Seagate Expansion 500GB USB 3.0 Portable Hard Drive
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148863
Cheap. USB 3.0. Smallish. 500GB.

COST: price + ship = $1174.49. ($10 MIR not included).
Juuuuuuussssssttttt under budget! Well the HD technicaly doesn't count. Also fans were an "extra".
