Hi,
Got £25 burning in paypal and after looking at some of the cool leds some of the fans have it got me thinking about making my own, keeps the cost down and i can use the fans i allready have.

I love bling so if i had to have them on 24/7 that's no issue.

I liked the look of the Thermaltake Cyclo but there nowhere tobe found, anybody know of a way of making my own?
I liked these allso
Enermax T.B.Vegas DUO 140mm
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y2JCFViTwpg&feature=related
So in teh next few days i'll have some type of leds to bling my fans out with, i''ll post the pics of course but in the meantime i could do with some help before i buy, i'll be buying sometime in the next 12 hours, i know that does'nt leave long so no worries if no replies wink.gif

Tut on installing led strips

How to Build a Spinning Sign and Other Free-Rotating Active Mechanisms
Quote:
I recently became interested in the possibility of building a spinning sign – one in which an array of LEDs are spun by a motor and lit at carefully timed positions to create the illusion of a sign floating in mid-air. Bob Blick has built such a sign (which he calls a “propeller clock”) and describes his design on his web page, http://www.bobblick.com/bob/projects/mclock/. This posting has been the inspiration for many other designs, which can be found by following the links on Bob Blick’s page.

Would anybody know if pc fans are dc or ac?
I see some fans for sale as dc if that helps

Binned the idea and got 2 cm 200mm megaflows instead.
Only real pattern fans i found was
Thermaltake ModX and Cyclo, found lots of 120mm cyclo's in the uk but wanted 140mm frown.gif

Makes me want to manufactuer loads of high cfm pattern fans as there is a market that only has rubbish products for retail.

I do have cheap led usb pattern fan on the way just to give me a thrill smile.gif

PC Fans are DC, Everything powered by the PSU is. Except Neons, ccfls, or EL (the cable from the control boxes which are "AC" but actually pulsed high voltage DC) biggrin.gif
Yeah I thought you could try mod the usb fan to a normal fan, but might be too hard with cabling etc.

We shall see, after i've had a good play i'll take it apart and see how it ticks
If i was lucky i could drill a hole in the hub for the wires, that bits simple enough, dno about the rest though.

it would be difficult with a standard pc fan to adapt vision persistence stuff, perhaps you could use the outside of the hub and hot glue wires running to contacts to a fixed plate on the blade side of the back of the fan? Personally I think for the effect you might as well just use a normal fan and make your on vision persistence device that fits in front.
