Camcorder for Charity trip to Vietnam.

Hey fellow OCNers. I'm on a mission to Vietnam vacation and charity trip. My family will be giving away 5000$ worth of food to the poor. we will be handing it out by ourselves because the government (communism) there really sucks and greedy. We will also be raising money from my local friends and family. I want to record everything to come back and show(prove) to people that we actually did it. So I am looking for a good camcorder to record with. But I was thinking of maybe getting a DSLR camera to take pictures and record with if its possible. ( been wanting a dslr for a long time) So if I get the camcorder alone I won't be getting a DSLR for a long time. So if the DSLR is good at recording I would prefer that. But if not then just a camcorder.
Budget is at 500 give or take. Best 500 $ camcorder please.
Thanks alot for chiming in.
All help will get +rep

or if you still really want a DSLR for video the only one i would suggest is a t2i which you can buy refurbished which is equivalent to brand new from canon. t2i is the cheapest and also best bang for your buck option but its a little over your budget and you would want to buy an external microphone as well

a little better budget would make getting a DSLR for video and photos more possible wink.gif

oh well with a budget like that for a dslr i would totally stick with T2i and get the microphone and maybe 18-55 + 55-250 as starter lenses. i personally prefer primes so i would still get the 18-55 for the nice walk around range and price and include a 50 1.8 and maybe an 85 1.8 if money permitted. there is not much need for anything longer than 85 unless you are shooting wildlife, sports, or portraits. if i was doing only video and knew i was only doing manual focus occasionally for photos i would get some rokinon primes and go for the 35 1.4 and 85 1.4

Well i will be shooting family pics. Some outdoor photos. Landscape. Vacation type of pictures. And what are 85 1.8 and 35 1.4 ?

the 35 1.4 and 85 1.4 are prime lenses made by rokinon. they are manual focus and manual aperture lenses. they are super affordable and for the price also super high quality. the rokinon 35 1.4 is argued by some as being one of the best 35mm lenses especially for the price. its super sharp and super cheap because it does not have auto focus. unfortunately a 35mm lens on a 1.6X crop camera is not very wide you having that 18-55 fill that void for a god price as well
