Yes, and unless you plan to make use of Quick Sync, Lucid is not worth it. H77 is more efficient than Z77.

Yes, the Lucid software is dependent on the iGPU. No iGPU, no Lucid. What are you going to be doing with this build that would be better for you to have a Xeon anyway?

But then I would be limited to 1600 on ram ... withc is not all that big of a deal ... this is a side upgrade any way ... but shoot... a 3770 looks so nice I am super temped to get Lucid ...... do you guys think would be worth the extra money to go after a 3770 to try lucid ...

That is correct. Is it worth $17 more is subjective. To me maybe yes to you maybe no...

Just spend the extra $17 for a Z77 board. You will thank yourself and be much, much happier with it. And since you're going to be buying faster RAM, Z77 will support it, not only that but you can overclock if you need to. It's well worth it, not to mention it has more resell value if you change your mind.

Is a Xeon chip even compatible with either of those chipsets?
Never mind, apparently it is.

Now that is a fine argument. Resell is there for sure, compared to the H77.

SO then NExt question ...

Once again, comes down to what you want to use your rig for.

If for Video/creation stuff - def. the Xeon.
If for Gaming only, the 3770k as you can oc and get a significant increase in FPS (if you have sufficient cooling - if not, go back to choice 1.)

Z77 will likely have a better resell value. You may not plan on selling it any time soon but you never know.

It depends. The E3-1230 V2, along with all other E3 Xeons ending in -0, do not have integrated graphics. Only the -5 numbered Xeons do. If you're going to be running a discrete video card then the E3-1230 V2 is going to be the better value here; since you claim to be not interested in overclocking, the only real benefit the i7-3770 offers is a 100MHz frequency bump. The Xeon also offers support for ECC RAM, but for most consumer workloads that's unnecessary (and you would need a motherboard with a C200-series chipset too.)
