SM57 panned left! How do I center it?

My SM57 Mic is in Channel 1 of my Audio Interface (M-Audio Fast Track Ultra) and that is linked to my computer via USB 2.0. It is working fine apart from one thing. It's panned completely left! Only a tiny bit is coming through the right speaker. There is nothing in the Audio Interfaces software that allowed me to correct it.

Is there anything I can do to make it act as if it is stereo? I need the pan centered.

And just to make it even harder I will be using it for live streaming and Video recording at the same time so I can't do something like record my audio and edit later. It's live! If only there were some sort of software that can take the input and pan it. So simple and would be so helpful.

PLEASE HELP!
thanks thumb.gif

P.S wrong thread I know but more eyes cross this section tongue.gif

We need to find a way to get the Mic In on your computer switched from Stereo to Mono. I mean, the incoming signal is mono, and the default is to go to the left channel. If the Mic In were set to be Mono, then it would be in both speakers equally.

(regarding intentionally posting in the wrong forum, we are not allowed to do it. So I took the liberty of providing you the service of reporting this thread so that a moderator can gently move it to the correct forum)

Well, the only solution that I can think of would cost money (maybe $50 to $60 USD total), but at least it would work. My solution is to get a mixer that has the red/white "RCA" stereo output jacks on it instead of USB only.

What I mean is, I am a drummer and I sometimes like to record just for fun or for self-critique (I never record for any other reason). So I have a few mics to record my drums, and those mics go into the mixer linked below, and the mixer is plugged directly into my sound card from the red/white "RCA" stereo output jacks on the mixer. I use a cable that has the red/white plugs on one end, and a mini stereo plug on the other end that I plug into my sound card.

http://www.peavey.com/products/proaudio/mixers/pv/index.cfm/item/115033/PV%28r%29%208.html

The first time I used this mixer, I only had 1 microphone, but it still recorded evenly into both Left and Right channels. I think that a mixer that has the stereo RCA output jacks can take the mono channel and evenly split it into both left and right channels out through the stereo RCA output jacks, and so I think that this is likely how it can take 1 microphone and have it record equally into both the left and right channels (true mono and not left-channel only).

Now of course, if this is the only way to do it (and I kind of doubt it, but I don't know of any other way due to a lack of experience), then you definitely wouldn't need to get a mixer quite like this one. I mean, I think all that would be needed is a mixer that has the stereo RCA output. Here's an example that costs much less than my mixer, but will still work beautifully:

All you would have to do is run a cable from the stereo RCA output jacks directly into your sound card/onboard audio Input jack using a cable that has the stereo RCA jacks on one end, and a mini stereo plug on the other (like the example below). It would be no different from what I do. smile.gif

I'm not specifically recommending this cable, nor am I recommending Monster cables, but it's the cheapest one I found at Radio Shack. It's 6.6 feet long.

What do you think? smile.gif
