ATI XFX 5850 temperature issue?

Okay so my brother owns an ATI/AMD XFX 5850 (black edition clocked @ 765Mhz core and 1125mhz memory, recently hes been running idle @ 65-72 Degrees Celsius with fan set at a steady 50%
When we run a game like Diablo 3 (high settings) the cards temp shoots up to 85-93 degrees and it actually starts ramping up the fan speed to 56%.

changes that have happened, we live in Canada and he last checked temps during the winter now ambient room temperature is up at least 10 degrees, sitting around 28-30 Celsius I know this is part of the reason the temp has shot up but why almost 25 degrees when playing a game?

Any other reasons why it might be running so hot? his case has optimal airflow. Aslo what are the temps those cards can handle? what is normal and what can be dangerous?

Some games just heat up the GPU by over double the idle temps. Ambient temps make a massive difference in overall temps. When you find yourself in hotter situations, use vsync and reduce your overclock.
