One of the cables got cut off

While sleeving, I accidentally cut off one of the cables. The cable is a 5v cable that has two wires crimped together. I accidentally cut off the smaller wire that was crimped with the bigger wire. Will the PSU still run or would I have to somehow fix it?306

It might, but I would wonder the other cable is for. Where was the other end going? Usually all the wires are there for a specific reason.

It goes into the PSU. When I get home tonight, I'm going to check my old psu's and see if i can remove the cable from there. I searched some extensions and most of them dont seem to have the extra cables, but all the other ocz psu's do. I'll go home and test it first.

It's fine. The additional wire is to make up for voltage drop. It shouldn't have a huge performance hit if you leave it out.

The computer works perfectly fine, but now there is a quite loud buzzing noise when I play games/Prime95 etc... Is this possibly related to the cut off cable?

It's possible, but unlikely. That extra wire is the 5v sense line, and is used to measure the 5v output at the motherboard end, in order to keep it happy. The buzzing is probably just vibrations in one or more of the coils inside the PSU, this is often caused by the glue failing, it's not going to harm anything, but it is gosh-darned annoying. How far back did you cut off that cable? Can you connect it to another 5v wire at any point?

Thanks for the response. the buzzing noise magically disappeared after leaving the computer on for a while. I just taped the end of the cut off part of the cable and put it into the sleeve with the 5v cable it originally was crimped with.
