I typically don't help people from other countries because I hate matching prices to those in the US. Doesn't work out well...

Especially people with avatars that are squeezing tiny bears.

But the least I can do is tell you that the Audio Technica M50s would be a terrible, awful, horrendous choice. As would the Sony XB series. And the Allesandro/Grado series.

I can find the AD700s on ebay for under 110. They're good for symphonic metal and excellent for gaming.

did some browsing around town, best deal i found locally were the Shure 750DJ's, usually 175, on for 99.99. Anyone have any expereince with these?
The Stealseries, both the 5H V2, as well as the Siberira V2 are sold in nearly all stores, with fancy boxes (the fancier the box, the less i trust the contents!)
additionally, one of the salesmen raved about the Klipsch One, (which retails for 159.99) and the AKG 142
the best seinheiser that sells locally are the 320's.
Does anyone have any experience with these? the ones recomended above are out of my price range due to the loveley fact that a lot of american companies seem to piss on canadians!
Thanks

The Steel Series Siberira have some good reviews as a gaming headset, and a pretty good 2.1 setup.

What makes you say that? People all over Head-Fi love the Allesandro/Grados and I'm not to familiar with this set. And I could kinda understand why you have dislikes for the M50 and SXB.

Because all of those brands have almost no soundstage whatsoever which is very important for gaming.

It's not a matter of what headphones people like. It's the criteria they need to meet in order to be labeled good for gaming.

You need a headphone that has a large sound stage, good imaging, good mids and highs. Having an open can generally helps and provides an airy sound.

The Allesandro's/Grado's are notorious for their in your face staging. You constantly feel like you're RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE STAGE which is not what you want for gaming. You want to know where exactly you are relative to sounds. XB5/700s lack way too much detail and are poor soundstage wise and are just generally not good headphones for anything other than bassy music and comfort.

The M50s have zero soundstage. In fact when putting them on a scale of 0-10 in terms of soundstage quality the M50s are the bottom limit. You just say on a scale of M50s-10. People will understand.

And if you try and throw the bullcrap "but they have bass and get you into the game" well that's not what gaming headphones are designed for. They're meant for getting the best advantage as you can. Otherwise you wouldn't be looking for "gaming" headphones. You'd just be looking for whatever sounds the best. And that said..all of those headphones mentioned above still don't do a good job at doing that right. They're too polarized. Too bassy or too front stagey.

thanks for the posts,

My previous online handle was Rattslayer, so my avatar is of someone slaying a rat, not a teddybear!

i spent more time browsing on ebay, looking at the AD700's, managed to find a pair for 75.00, +25 dollars shipping, They are factory refurbs, would there likely be any problem with these? or should i pull the trigger?

We have a problem..the sets you found are not good for gaming, add the M50's to that list as well.

Do you have a link to a store near you? maybe we can find something good for your needs.

Using Roccat Kave here (with Xonar D1), great price and awesome for gaming (I do that a lot), real analogue 5.1 (none of that virtual surround crap), really great mic + detachable + adjustable , nice controller on the cable (adjustable volume for front, rear, center and sub channels separately + master volume + mute (status LED) + mic mute (another status LED) + game/movie mode switch). And they also do surprisingly great with music, much more versatile than I expected. Also very good build quality, good plastics, rubber, aluminum hinges, not something that will break anytime soon.
And you can turn on the vibrations which is fun in games like BF3 with a lot of shooting and explosions - ear+neck massage!

Closed, so bass can squash the brain if you like that. If not, you can cross over to the sub channel and keep your brain. Need a bit of EQ love at first, to soften the highs, but surely they don't lack any part of the spectrum.

Just check them out thumb.gif

Difficult to answer. Very subjective. Some people prefer being in front of the stage. Others prefer hearing where each instrument is coming from on the stage. It also matters a lot less for music and a lot more for gaming. You can theoretically enjoy music from both perspectives..but you can't enjoy competitive gaming with no soundstage.

You either love Grado or you hate it. There's no real inbetween. You like being in front of the stage and having the song sung to you in your face..or you prefer being in the center of the stage and listening to where each of the band members are playing from. It actually is more involved than just that. I'm not giving the Grado sound enough props really. It's definitely a headphone that sounds great for rock..but for gaming..it's definitely not something you want to use if you have an alternative.
