PCI-E 2 HD 7770 preformance Crossfire?

Thread Starter
Hi there.
Im looking for a new upgrade for my old outdated GPU - HD 4870..
First I thought Ill go with a GTX 680 but the price is to high...(500$)
So i decied on a XFX HD 7770 Black Edition Crosffire which is 200$ chipper.(154$X2)
Now my motherboared is P7P55D (supports crossfire) which is PCI-E 2 and the card is PCI-E 3 but its a pretty weak card so its potential should be fully used..but im not sure.. could you tell me waht problems could accure from this combination?
Im just hopping it wouldnt effect any FPS results in games.. like BF3 biggrin.gif - the main reason i am upgrading.

Ty anyway guys biggrin.gif

Don't worry about the Gen 3 and Gen 2, currently PCI-E 2.1 doesn't use its full bandwidth.
If anything, you might have a ~2% performance decrease, but nothing out of a margin of error.

And do you really want to crossfire?
As most people will say, single card is always better than dual cards.

With $300, you could get the HD7850, which blows the CF HD7770.
HD7770 are basically on par with HD 6850, and if you CF them, its on the level of a GTX580
I can't find the reviews, but a HD 7850 is on par or better then a GTX 580 and uses less power at the same time.

You don't seem to know what you're talking about. 7770 crossfire is above a 7950, which is clearly above a 7850. Read up on something before posting, please?

Edit - When it works right.

I agree that you should just get a 7850 instead of 2 7770. Be different if you already had a 7770.

I can't find any details on the monitor you have listed in your sig rig (EF32-XC), but if your running @ 1080p or higher then I would get the best single GPU you can for $300. My reasoning is that a 7770 crossfire setup while fast will be limited to 1gb vram, unless you pick a 7770 2gb model but that will cost more. Most of the $300 GPU's come with 1.5gb-3gb of vram.

Can you please show me where it states that a HD7770CF is faster then a 7950?

http://www.eteknix.com/reviews/graphics/amd-radeon-hd-7770-crossfire-review/8/

Theses are just some that show a GTX580, which is on par with the HD7850 is still faster then the HD7770CF.
