Need help understanding my CPU

Okay, I just built my first PC this past Friday. I went with the i5-3570k for my CPU. Now it has been up and running for a while, I am getting a feel for the system but one thing I can't understand is that my CPU is always be pushed so hard for even the simplest of tasks. Even while I am on the internet, it ends up using like 20% of my CPU. Just now as I was running a Norton full system scan, I was using like 50% of my CPU. Keep in mind I have this thing overclocked to 4.5ghz for turbo boost mode. I just need some help understanding this situation. Fell free to ask questions. Thanks!

I don't regularly check my CPU usage, but this sounds fine to me. However, what was your previous CPU and what usage were you getting back then?

Be glad it was using 50% of cpu while running a Norton scan..it got done quicker

I agree.

I wish I could loan you my mom's new Dell laptop. It was fine until she put Norton on it. I liked using it until she put Norton on it.

I mean, the before and after difference was huge.

On-subject, your CPU useage is normal. Right now as I sit on OCN with no other apps running there is a core that goes from %3-20 useage. I'm assuming you're talking about a core, not the entire CPU?

Hey thanks guys for all the answers. There is no problem now. I just got some more windows updates and that seemed to do the trick. Now I am hovering around 3-6% CPU usage. Thanks again!
