We're excited to announce our first benchmarking and LAN gaming event in the San Francisco Bay area, sponsored by GFI VIPRE® Antivirus, on July 28th, 2012 in the heart of San Francisco at the Omni Hotel. Join us for LN2 benchmarking, LAN gaming, product demos, light refreshments, and more!

Date: Saturday, July 28th, 2012

Change of Venue Announcement
Due to some last minute capacity issues, our event has moved to the Hyatt Regency San Francisco.
Located at:
5 Embarcadero Center,
San Francisco, California, USA 94111
Map and Directions

We'll be located in the Bayview room.

This is just a few blocks down the road from the former venue - still very close. Sorry for the late breaking news!

Time: Starting 11am, end time 7:00pm

Cost: Free!

LAN Gaming:
40 Seats

Arrival to 11:30am - Counter Strike: Source - GunGame (as a skill demo - during this time, L4D2 players should be picking teams before tournament begins)

12 Noon - L4D2 Tournament Begins
  • 8 teams of 4 players
  • Single-elimination bracket. Each round will consist of a complete campaign, with both teams playing as both the survivors and infected on each map
  • The winning team of each round shall be the team with the highest overall score at the end of the campaign. In the event of a tie or overtime, one additional map from outside the current campaign will be selected by the person(s) officiating the round.
  • A full list of rules and contingencies will be made available on event day. Some highlights:
    • All game clients should be "vanilla", which is to say that they are as-downloaded without any modification to nonstandard settings or game content
    • All matches will be played with the Confogl competitive configuration
    • No exploits, cheats, or other play deemed "unfair" by a majority of event-day officials - including map glitches
  • Prize pool for tournament is currently at $1250 in value.
The LAN will have an internet connection, and players who aren't participating in the tournament or who's teams have been knocked out of the tournament are encouraged to get some pick-up games together of whatever you'd like to play. Should the tournament end before the scheduled closing remarks, we'll repurpose the tournament's dedicated servers for other games.

Benchmarking:
12 Workstations

11:30am - Competition opens

  • Roughly 500L of LN2 available
  • If you wish to use LN2, you must be present in the hall at 11am for a brief safety session
  • Competition officially opens at 11:30am - any bechmark results submitted as a part of competition must have been attained after 11:30am on event day, though preparation can begin as soon as you arrive in the morning
  • Competition will be based around HWBot points - the winner shall be the person or two-person team who earns, in total, the most HWBot points on event day using any hardware (legally) available, any cooling method, and running any HWBot-sanctioned benchmark. Competition will close at 6:30pm, for results to be tallied and announced at the 7pm closing remarks.
  • Prize pool for benchmarking is currently at $1250 in value.
WiFi will be available in the benchmarking side of the event. No ethernet connection is provided. A dedicated computer will be available for making result submissions.

Prizes include a complete rig specced out by Overclock.net staff, $500 Newegg gift card, and more - all attendees will also receive an event t-shirt and copy of VIPRE's antivirus software.

I wish I could make this one too, too far to travel by car though with such little notice. I'm hoping this one goes at least as smooth as Toronto though :D

Would we happen to have a deal with the Omni hotel (if it still is one) for those of us that can't afford to fly in and out in one day?

Made a few edits to this one since the event scope changed slightly with the addition of a presenting sponsor.

We won't be running under the Grand Champion banner, but no cost-of-entry should be some extra incentive for you to come!
