I have a 50'' Plasma, Panasonic ST30 Plasma TV. Bought it at Christmas. Movies...are incredible, TV in general is great, blacks are insane, crisp, clear, I love the thing to death, I even hooked my PC up to it and it was amazing! I instantly wanted it in my room instead lol. Everything was so good, so detailed, black and white levels, no over-bright...so smooth to, it was like being on a CRT again. All my friends commented after that they went home to their LCD monitors and said it "felt sluggish, after seeing that", ah, I miss the days of no input lag or 6ms refresh rates and whatnot...just instant, clear, no blurry. No ghosting, ect.
I also got a PS3 and a lot of games I had wanted, now, II've been busy with other things the last few months, but I've been trying to play some of my PS3 games. However, I notice something quite odd. My PS3 games...seem zoomed out. Far away. I can't make out the details of characters that well, especially if it's a game that uses black bars. If it has Black Bars, well, can nearly forget about it!
I tried the Dragon's Dogma demo and it has black bars; on my Plasma, I couldn't see what was happening. My character seemed rather far away. This happens in other games, such as Castlevania as well. He becomes a red spec at times, and stuff on the floor is hard to see and pick up. I fee like I'm watching a painting in the far off distance. It's annoying, makes it really hard to enjoy at times.
Some PS3 games play fine, actually, and look pretty much like I'd expect, distance / size wise.
So for the heck of it, I decided to hook my PS3 up to my PC's monitor, as I now have a Receiver and could do the passthrough. I loaded up Dragon's Dogma. Black bars, still there...however, I could, what do you know? See my character, I could make out details of his face, his clothes. My PC Monitor is a 24'' LCD TN panel, 1920 x 1200...so the image is stretched. That part looks bad, but the other stuff, just looks far superior.
It frustrates me - Does anyone else with a Plasma have these issues? I mean damn, the thing is so great, and 50'' looks so good, Plasmas are the best TV's you can get at current without spending stupid amounts, and I'd love to be able to play it on there, but on my little LCD, it just well, I can see more detail.
