D/l msi Afterburner in the options select to use voltage control, also force constant voltage, raise the voltage on the slider to 1175mv ( that's the high end for the 7970 stock shipping voltage, it ranges from 1025mv-1175mv) , check and see if your card is stable, I would go as high as 1200 on the voltage to check stability, no problem for the card.
Also its possible the mem needs a little bump, found under the pull down tab on the Afterburner CP at the end of the core voltage control slider.

Bump your power limit % up to 20

Bit of an Update after last night....
Test Notes:

Uninstalled CCC, Updated BIOS, Swept drivers in safe mode, Installed XFX7970 disk drivers, Tried 12.6 CCC, Tried 1 stick of RAM, Took XFX card out and installed it again, Tried it in another compatible slot, Tried new cables, Tried Reference 7970 clock and MEM settings....

Tested at every step and Still Crashes in Furmark and Games. Furmark crashes at Exactly 72.9C...every time.

Only thing we haven't tested yet is another system... but from that, I think it is safe to say that card needs sending back!

Know a guy at an IT company next to us that can check it for me before I try a windows reinstall.... seriously trying to put that off...lol!!
but ye... just want a new card now.... times like this I start thinking GTX...lol!!

Yeah something tells me Windows re-install isn't going to help here. BUT you could always take an image, re-install Windows, test it out... if it doesn't work just restore your image.
I think its more XFX probably f'd something rather than the choice of AMD but haha thumb.gif

Just been issued an RMA code from XFX.... Checking the card on another machine tomorrow morning.... if it doesn't work then sending this bad boy off....

....but if it does....??????????!!!!

....guess Ill be starting all over again ....lol!!!

Looked at my Windows update log and Noticed that the day before all this started Windows did a critical update .... the next time I tried to play a game it bombed.

Any Thoughts guys?
