Asus VG23AH: 72hz Semi-Glossy Passive 3D (1920x540) IPS - Page 2

Hi MenacingTuba,

What's your optimal setting for brightness and contrast? Mine has good color but I want to get the 'white' better? Do I need a calibrator to do this?

I'm also tempting to get another VG236H for its glossy and 120hz, think it's better for gaming (I haven't used any 120hz) and reading text. What's your experience with this two monitor?

It's hard to find the one-for-all monitor, so far my favorite is my Macbook 13's display. Easy for eyes.

My settings are for 140cd,/2 brightness, 6500k colour temperature and 2.22 gamma.

Brightness: 38
Contrast: 84
Red: 91
Green: 95
Blue: 95

So far all of the VG23AH's reviewed have had the same quality of colours as mine out of the box (near-perfect), but so did the PA238Q and the quality control turned out to be pretty awful, so I don't know how yours compares to mine.

You can read/watch my VG236H Review Here:
http://wecravegamestoo.com/forums/gadgetry-electronics-discussion/9014-asus-vg236h-120hz-3d-monitor-review.html

My VG23AH has much better colours since it is IPS (better viewing angles & even colours) and mine has perfect colour presets. VG236H has the advantage for PC use since it is 120hz=smoother and clearer motion and it supports Nvidia 3D Vision=1080p 3D for PC vs 540p Passive 3D on the VG23AH.

The VG23Ah does support 72hz, imo semi-glossy or glossy 72hz IPS/PLS>120hz TN. Passive 3D can look bad due to the halved resolution, but the colours are better on the VG23AH, so I'm of two minds about it right now. I haven't watched any 3D movies on the VG23AH, yet.

NCX how is q248q comparing to vg23ah? Forget about the 3d part

This thread isn't about the PA248Q, it seems fine according to the following reviews, except for the fact that it is very grainy:

http://www.prad.de/new/monitore/test/2012/test-asus-pa248q.html
http://www.overclockers.ru/lab/48057/Temnaya_loshadka._Obzor_i_testirovanie_monitora_ASUS_PA248Q_serii_ProArt.html

It also seems to suffer from a panel lottery given how poor the contrast is on the unit DV received compared to PRAD and Overclockers.ru
http://www.digitalversus.com/lcd-monitor/asus-pa248q-p13430/test.html

I updated my first post, the VG23AH supports 72/75/76hz with custom timings which are available in the first post.

I have this screen since two weeks now.
I had a CRT 19" monitor still and after trying a LG 2542PN that I really didn't liked, this one I will keep it and forget the CRT monitor.

The only issues I have is that in the begining I was seeing too much the lines patterns in 2D (yes 2D), probably because of the FPR filter, but now I don't bother.

Also the monitor doesn't have a way to switch eyes for 3D hdmi1.4 content.
So with battlefield 3 with AM HD3D wich relies on the BF3 engine and not a middleware like IZ3D, TriDef of 3D Vision, the eyes are inverted, because the BF3 engine sends them inverted, and the monitor can't help to correct this BF3 error

because there is no flickering, light glasses, and it's half the price

In a few month the Oculus Rift http://oculusvr.com/ will be out and probably you will never want to play on a monitor at all smile.gif

Thanks for the posts/reviews Menacing Tuba.

Between the Asus VG23AH and the Samsung 27A850D (or 24 inch equivalent), which would you say has a) clearer text and b) purer whites? Or are they too similar in this regard to matter?

I got a Dell U2412m, and the text clarity and white appearance are not great because of the anti-glare coating.

Thanks much.

I had 2209WA and 2408WFP, and I think the text on VG23AH is much better.

Yup. If you are going to be reading a ton of text then the Samsung would be better since you will be getting much more screen-real estate due to the 2560x1440 resolution.
