Asus VG23AH: 72hz Semi-Glossy Passive 3D (1920x540) IPS - Page 14

Got 2 questions:

1. What program do you use to get the 3d working. I read that Tridef doesn't work with this monitor.
2. Do you output from your gpu with hdmi or dvi?
I'm seriously considering picking one of these up, but i have a question i was hoping someone could give a definitive answer too.

Can you get 72-76hz on an AMD GPU?

Every guide or report of success I've found seems to be on Nvidia hardware. The only reference to doing it at all on AMD was a newegg review that said he couldn't go above 67hz.

If anyone could like try it on a friends machine or something it would be greatly appreciated.

I too want to know whether this is possible on an AMD card or not. And is it really recommended to overclock a monitor? I mean how reliable is it?

I've been looking at this monitor because of the IPS and the novelty of 3d. From reading other forums, it was brought up that the people were seeing the grey lines when they wore glasses, maybe from the anti-reflective coatings. Anyone who has this monitor, do you see the lines when you are not wearing glasses?

Also, I've read that you can get 3d working with NVidia by creating an EDID override and tricking windows into thinking that the monitor is one of the supported monitors. Has anyone tried this?

Thanks!

Just grabbed this monitor as an upgrade from my old LG w2252tq and gotta say I'm digging it. I have a 1920 laptop display and switching back and forth from 1680 dekstop was driving me nuts.

Are there noticeable lines? Well yes I do see them in some rare instances, if you are a bit on the 'anal' side and think this is going to bother you I'd advise against the monitor. But it is a real oddity it is hard sometimes to reproduce even when I try to find them now I can't really see them.. I'm not sure the science behind it but it must have something to do with the polarization for the passive 3d?

Looks like it does glow a bit in the bottom left hand side of the screen a bit as well but no complaints - great colour.

I'm running a Radeon 6950 and set it up using TriDef and the 3d looks pretty slick, yes you need to be in a sweet spot for it look proper but playing Portal 2 for a few minutes really tricks some subconscious part of me. It's like I know its not 3D but there is a part of me that doesn't, sort of a mind f**k.

For the $295.xx CDN after tax/shipping I paid for this thing I'm pretty happy - if you're in Canada I grabbed it from computervalley.ca these guys delivered the thing the next day arrived at 9am (and I ordered it at 4pm lol)..

Anyone know what panel model this is? Didn't realize anyone made 23" IPS panels with a semi-glossy coat

It turns out the grey lines are caused by the passive 3D filter and they can be seen on some passive 3D TV's too.

It is also dependant on your vision and glasses/contacts prescription. Two [H]ard Forum user could see the lines with his contacts in, but not with their glasses and vice versa. I have had 3 people look at my VG23AH and none of them could see the lines with their glasses on or off and I can't see them either.

The bottom left glow seems to be the main issue and so far no colorimeter owning users/reviewers have reported units with different image quality. Usually low-mid range IPS panels have varying contrast/blacks and gamma. A good unit may have 2.2 gamma and 1000-1200:1 contrast while the bad ones will have 2 or 2.4 gamma and 700-800:1 contrast.

Lastly, if you download this and install it you don't have to use the Ypbr setting in the Nvidia Control panel, see this thread:

The 3D works over DVI too, even though it says it will not in the manual. Someone informed me of this after I created the review and I've tested it myself too.

Just got the VG23AH setup. Way better than my crappy Acer it replaced. No horizontal lines I can see so far. Left corner blacklight bleed though...god it's awful. Anyone get one of these w/o backlight bleed from AZ?

Maybe a very strange comparison but i was wanting to buy the asus 144hz monitor

http://www.asus.nl/Display/LCD_Monitors/VG278HE/

But after seeing this monitor i am kinda not sure what i want.

At first i wanted a 120hz monitor and then came across the 144hz one but later saw this IPS passive 3D monitor wich i kinda like.

I am comming from a 22" LCD 60hz (with stunning colors tho and no input lag and 2ms)

I play alot of games

When setting the vg23ah to 72Hz does it work with the relatively slow response time? And is it visually an improvement over 60Hz wich is also really noticable?
