Born again Newb, New build advice.

Hello everyone (anyone)

First post ever on any forum, so hope I've put in the right place (and I've had a few beers).

My names is Lobby for all intensive purposes, self confessed born again pc building newb.

Old PC: AMD athlon 3500+, geforce 9800 gt, GA-K8NF-9 MB..... RIP..
Loved it when i built it (2005 - 6 -7 maybe) cant remember exactly when..
Over clocked it and all that, (as far as i dared anyway) done the job for years...
Now.... Works sometimes..
Not sure what it is, I used to be able to move/remove/re-install heat sink and remove/re-install ram and it would fire up..
LMAO i even washed the PCU heat sink to remove all the dirt and dust once or twice, and yes ensured it was completely dry again before re-installation. Now I just get a 3 to 4 second long beep on start-up of the PC that repeats and no display output I've tried for weeks to get it going, I'm thinking motherboard is fingered.

So... New build... :-) biggrin.gif:thumb:

One that's going to satisfy my immediate needs and last for a while in the long run..(Gaming and Media center PC)
I've been researching for a bit on the web and looked at most of the reviews on the new intel ivy chips.
I understand the difference between the i5 and i7 and still leaning toward the i7 for longevity of the chip (from my understanding)

This is what I'm leaning toward at the moment, bearing in mind budget is fairly high on priority but willing to invest in quality if warranted.

Component qty $ $

Corsair H80 Liquid CPU Cooler 1 $135.00 $135.00
Thermaltake Litepower 700W 1 $78.00 $78.00
Microsoft Windows 7 Premium,
Service Pack 1, 64-bit - OEM 1 $99.00 $99.00
OCZ Vertex Plus 60GB 1 $75.00 $75.00
Gigabyte nVidia GTX560 Ti OC 1GB 1 $225.00 $225.00
LG DVD Burner 1 $29.00 $29.00
Bitfenix Shinobi - Black 1 $79.00 $79.00
G.SKILL DDR3 8GB (2X4GB)
F3-12800CL9D-8GBRL Ram 1 $59.00 $59.00
ASRock Z77 Extreme4 Motherboard - 1 $155.00 $155.00
Intel CPU Core i7 3770K - LGA 1155 1 $389.00 $389.00
Total $1,323.00

Was initially going to go for the ASrock extreme 6 z77 motherboard but for the additional functions of the 6 over the 4 i didnt think the extra $50 was really worth it, I would have liked thundercable or what ever it is called but those boards that have that option from my research are $350 400 +, which is not in my budget.

Anyways, if anyone can make any recommendations on performance or alternative hardware please fell free to make comment, positive of coarse is always welcomed,

cheerrs anyways and ill have another beer, tongue.gif:thumb:

Firstly Hello and welcome to the forums, hope you end up sticking around and having some fun here!

Secondly it looks like a good build, but I can only see the one SSD for storage, i'd recommend maybe a 1TB drive like the Samsung F3 or the Hitachi Deskstar, 1TB should do you for a good pile of games and a lot of films. smile.gif

The rest looks fine to me! Hope you enjoy it.

Cheers for that Cpt.

I was planning to use the old HD drive from my old PC (350 g) , i also have a 1 TB external, and was going to get a larger "old school" HD later on for all that you collect along the way.

Thanks for the feed back:thumb:thumb.gif

Just to comment on your older computer your mobo manual states that continuous long beeps means its a DRAM error.

On to the new computer.

Looks like a pretty solid builds, but maybe you should wait for nVidia to release the mid-end 6xx series card it might be worth it in the long run. Or go with a AMD 7 series mid-end card.

Welcome to OCN.

Just so happened to window shop GPUs for the first time in a while when I woke up this morning. Saw a 560Ti 448 for $240AR.

Well that depends or one of your ram slots on your motherboard isn't working and you would have to replace the motherboard or a stick of ram isn't working so you would need to buy a new ram stick.
Or maybe one of the ram sticks isn't in the slots correctly.

EDIT:
How many sticks of ram do you have? Try using only 1 and move it to another slot to see if you can boot again.

But hey building a new PC is always more fun then repairing your old tongue.gif

Cheers Ol Mate,

For the record I'm from Australia, and i have personally had a bad experience from ordering merchandise from america, namely Amazon.

I was a victim of internet theft and lost $18000 AUS which at the current rate of exchage is probly about $30000 USD, so i wont using any american sites. (no offence intended, it was french persons whom done the hacking)

Onto the graphics cxard, i was thinking about the 2g 560ti and might get two later on in sli??

is that worth it on not?

sim~build $1350 AUD (Click to show) Here's a more balance power gamer build, based on IB, i5 3570K, the best IB gamers cpu, you dont need an i7 the HT will be just wasted, I considered the antec 620 ALC as this close loop cooler performed same or in par with H70 in dual fan mode & quieter, I choose the micro-atx Z77 asrock E4 as it would function the same as its full atx brother with the same pcie x8/x8 on SLI mode, have choosen gtx 670, the best price/performance videocard, an enermax 600W 80+ enough to power the rig with possibility of SLI, best price and reliable crucial ssd 64gb for OS and 500gb WD for storage and a good airflow with window CM elite 340 chasis to house everything and not the least a cheap LG optical drive for your DVD needs
