New Main Gaming/Work Rig (Solved)

Thread Starter
Hi everybody,

Just finished selling my gaming rig, barely got any time with it.. doh.gif , to a family member.

Well that means I am on the market for another build...this time my final build loool biggrin.gif

I so far will go this way:

CPU: I5-3570K

Motherboard: Asus P8H77-V (Anyone know if this supports SLI?, also is it good?)

GPU : 2x EVGA GTX 560 FTW+ (Is this card "FTW+" is good?)

Case: Haf X

PSU: Corsair 750W (Enough?)

I´ve got two question.... do you guys know if this board works out of the box wit the Ivy bridge processor, because I´ve heard some things about that some Z68 motherboards don´t work out of the box and need a bios update.... and I´m not buying another cpu just to update a motherboard...

Also... I have limited space on my desk.. and recently a friend of mine showed me his Phantom 410... do you guys think a phantom 410 will do just fine or I better go with the HAF X ???
Here in Portugal the Haf is only 30 € more expensive so not a lot of price diference...

Advice/ Opinions are welcome! biggrin.gif

Many thanks!

According to ASUS, the board only 'officially' supports AMD CrossFireX - I can't remember if boards that support CFX also support SLI, or if it was boards that support SLI also support CFX.. someone will need to chime in here for me on that one smile.gif
Are you set on those GTX560's? Could AMD or perhaps the 600 series of nvidia be recommended at all?

The PSU depends, which Corsair 750 is it?

That board is not Z68. It is the H77 chipset. I'd recommend getting a board with a Z77 chipset - some examples:

ASUS P8Z77-V
Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD3H
ASRock Z77 Extreme6

Z68 boards will support Ivy Bridge CPUs with a BIOS update, though - to answer your question.

As for the case, I can't really comment on that sorry smile.gif

Many thanks for the reply! biggrin.gif

This is the power supply I was going for
http://www.amazon.es/Corsair-CMPSU-750TXV2-current-voltage-circuit/dp/B004NRTTFS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1340712870&sr=8-1

Well a 600 series Is a bit over my budget, I want to get 1 card now an another in about 2 months... so to "save" rolleyes.gif some money... only if there is a 600 series max 300 euros .

As for AMD yes, tell me what amd you´d have, the reason I didn´t choose Amd it´s because a lot of people say it´s drivers are bad and such... but personally I´ve never had one biggrin.gif

As for the motherboard I´ve found this but it´s a DS3H, is there a UD3H or are they the same?
http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4147#sp

Edit: I´m will look for the motherboards you suggested, on a local store today, will post about what I found thumb.gif

No worries! That PSU looks fine smile.gif
As for AMD graphics cards, check out the HD 7950 or HD 7870.

This one is a tad over 300 euro: http://www.amazon.es/Asus-HD7950-DC2-3GD5-Tarjeta-gr%C3%A1fica-Pci-Express/dp/B007EN3JP4/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1340714259&sr=1-1
This one is a trifle over 300 euro: http://www.amazon.es/Asus-90-C1CRT0-L0UAY0BZ-Tarjeta-de-Video/dp/B007MLPG2M/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1340714298&sr=1-1

I just did that quickly - you might be able to find cheaper prices if you look harder than me.

Those two boards aren't the same, no - here is the GIGABYTE board I mentioned: http://www.gigabyte.us/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4153

The one's I suggested shouldn't be set in stone though! If there's another Z77 chipset board you like post it here and we can have a look for you!

Two things:

That is a good psu. I have a corsair psu and love it.

The mobo you selected has a x16 slot and an x4 slot, so I would not recommend this board for an sli/crossfire build. In fact, I don't see anywhere on the site where it even says it supports sli.
THIS is the UD3H, and it will support sli/xfire.

EDIT: Dang, got beat to it tongue.gif

The best way to approach getting the proper parts for your new build is to figure out exactly what you want to use this new rig for.
Based on the information you've put up so far here's what I think. For your CPU, the 3570k is ok but if you want to do anything CPU intensive or very multithreaded go with a 3770k. The motherboard you currently have picked out uses the h77 chipset, that does not allow any overclocking and is built to utilize only the IGPU in it's standard configuration, z77 boards support a new version of virtu that can utilize the IGPU and a discrete gpu, stick with Asus. The video cards your looking at are really quite under-powered, a gtx 480 can blow them out of the water, and why do you need two video cards if you just sold your gaming rig? Anyhow, I'd suggest looking into a SINGLE card to use, sli and crossfire configurations are never as stable as a single card. I'd suggest an EVGA GTX 670 (non ftw or SC, your just paying for a small factory overclock), or a Radeon HD 7970. If you really don't need too much graphics power then go with a GTX 660. The HAF-x is a massive case, you really don't need that. Just look for a normal ish sized ATX mid tower case.

The build looks good, but you have to base your part selection on what your going to be using the PC for.
