2013 I would think. - Its a guess, nvidia seem to do new series every year.

I am asking because I am planning to buy a GPU.
If they are releasing a new GPU series in less than a year I could do my job with a cheap one and wait for the 700 series
but if it’s more than a year or tow I think that I would buy a gtx 680

Nvidia have not yet released the GTX 660, GTX 650 nor the "ti" versions of neither of them, so you will have to wait a whole while before starting to hear about their new series at all, IMO.

To answer your question: Nvidia always releases their new series mid-Q1 or in the beginning of Q2.

the GTX 780 card will launch early next year. the current GTX 680 would be the mid range card GTX 760 at USD 300.

"The Nvidia executives we talked with raised the possibility of a GK110-based GeForce being released this year only if necessary to counter some move by rival AMD. That almost certainly means that any GK110-based GeForce to hit the market in 2012 would come in extremely limited quantities. "

the first chips to be produced based on the GK110 are reserved for supercomputer deals. so Q4 2012 is for Tesla . early Q1 2013 is for consumer gaming. So if you can hold on for 6 months you can rest assured of picking up a GTX 780 in Jan 2013. thumb.gif
