Spec Ops: The Line - Page 3

Hi

I was told this game was just another 'FPS wannabe' and didn't warrant one's attention. Well....I highly disagree with that statement. This game (while yet another FPS) did not get nearly enough 'attention/press' as BF3 and COD MW3 did, however, this game appears to be very stable and to this point, bug free. Now everyone knows there are several bugs to be found as users acquire the full game. This of course is just the way things are. One cannot possibly develop ANY piece of software (especially games) that are bug free in nature, however, some do a lot better during their testing than others. It seems this game is worthy of purchasing if you like FPS type games.

I downloaded the entire game and have been playing non-stop (around Max Payne 3, Future Soldier and a few others) for the last 4 days or so. I have I guess what by today's standards would be a mid-class performance machine containing the following:

AMD Phenom II X6 1100T @4.3GHz

nVidia 570 GTX 1280MB GPU O/C a tad

Asus 990FX Sabertooth Mobo | Bios: 0802

I-Inc 28" 1920x1200 120Hz LED LCD

OCZ Agility III 128MB SATA-3 SSD x 2

WB Velociraptor 1TB 10K RPM HDD x 2

I guess it's just myself, I often think, however, I seem to have very good luck and performance when it comes to getting these newest games to run w/o any problems at all. Of course there is the Battlefield III issue that most have, however, I posted in this forum a temporary fix to allow many users to finally play...including myself.

With SpecOps, I obtain no less than 65 FPS with options set to max detail/quality. I run at 1920 x 1200 and use nVidiaInspector as needed to experiment with other manually induced settings. Below are a few screenshots I took just last night and while I forgot to note whether or not I had FXAA on or off, most have to admit that the graphics are very well indeed.

Graphics are aaaight. Textures in a lot of the world are pretty low-res and the bloom is WAY overdone (imho) to compensate for that, but ... it doesn't look half-bad, esp. for DX9.

So ... interesting observation. I've gotten the actual game now, and discovered it's .exe name doesn't match either of the expected .exe names in the profile for the game. So I took a before and after screenie, one BEFORE I added SpecOpsTheLine.exe to the game profile, and one after I added it to the game profile. Take a gander at the GPU utilization and such. This is with NO other changes to the game, and all NVCP settings are at default in both cases. In the first pic, usage is so low that my card is downclocking. In the second, my clocks max out and my gpu usage is much higher. Now, the question is ... is there any actual benefit to the IQ or anything else?

Oh, and by the way, GREAT CALL on the FXAA. It is FTW in a big, big way. Night and Day.

Without FXAA

With FXAA

Actually those don't even BEGIN to do justice to how huge the difference really is with FXAA turned on when you're actually playing (in fact I'm not sure the screenie is even picking it up). Without FXAA on, everywhere you look is aliased. With it turned on, you have to look FOR aliasing, and it's not easy to find.

NVIDIA driver FXAA isn't applied to screenshots for unknown reasons. If you get the .dll injection (InjectFXAA), you can screenshot it. The two do the same ingame though, so the driver FXAA is easier to use.

Want a challenge?
nvidia users only
Turn up digital vibrance to 100%, and around 3-5 degrees of Hue. Then use the vibrant filter in the game graphic options. Then play the stage where you gotta steal the water trucks. I still don't know how I played that.

I've started the game on Fubar after completing in Suicide. I must say this game is good and the story is hell awesome, 2nd best story of summer, the first being obviously Maxie 3.
The game is really Fubar in Fubar! I came out of cover, shot one person and while ducking back into cover got killed. Also I was sprinting to cover while a machine gunner gunned me down, I was just like 1m away from my cover.

1) Go into nVInspector (if you don't have it, GET IT if you run SLI!!!), click the button next to the 'driver' box, and on the next screen, pull up the profile for the 'real' game using the search box. It handles multiple characters being input, which is cool, so just start typing S-P-E and it'll pop right up. If it doesn't, update your drivers cause the SLI profile is there in the latest WHQL drivers (as you can see in my screenie).
2) Click the button at the top whose tooltip says "add application to current profile", just to the right of the red X.
3) Navigate to the .exe for the demo. It *should* NOT match the other .exe names you see in the green bar near the top of the nVInspector screen. The fact that the demo's exe isn't in that list is why SLI isn't working for the demo, IOW.
4) Once you navigate to the .exe for the demo and select it, the green bar should then have the demo's .exe name in it. This means that you've added the demo application to the 'real' game's SLI profile.
5) PROFIT!!!
Sounds like a bunch of work but it takes like 1 minute, and I'll give you a 99% guarantee that SLI will then work for the demo thumb.gif
EDIT:
I just d/l'd the demo, and it's path is:
c:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\specops_theline_demo\Binaries\Win32\SpecOpsTheLine.exe
And that EXE is NOT in the profile for the regular game, so that's why SLI isn't working on the demo. Note that also AA and anything you change in the NVCP also won't work unless you associate a game .exe with a profile, so it's worth doing even if you don't have SLI. I'm about to try 'forced' 16xAF and 16xQAA + 4xTRSSAA from nvcp, just to see if I can actually get any more than like 30% GPU usage wink.gif

Hugs. I will try this and see how it runs when i get home. I want to buy this game.
