In this business, once is way, way too many times. I lost a 1 TB drive during that time, just threw it out and got a WD 2 TB black. For as long as I live, I will not purchase another Seagate product. Simple as that.

Yeah. Oh wait. I once had a Donettes blister arrive over the expiry date on me. I'm not going to buy Donettes again.
Ah! And there was one time I got a DOA OSRAM LED light bulb. OSRAM sucks so much balls I'm not buying it again. And my 1st DS had a stuck green pixel. No Nintendo that is. Oh yes, and I had to RMA my HD5870. No more Sapphire or ATi for me. And what about that Team Orion ESC that burnt after two weeks of me purchasing it? Bleh, I'm not buying Team Orion either.
Come on...

What are you talking about? In the HDD business, failures is always possible and expected. It is not a question of "if" but "when". It has been like that for the last 56 years and what other computer subsystems has so many techniques for redundancy/recovery/backup/archiving? So what business are you talking about?
LOL... I will guarantee you that you will purchase another Seagate product before you die. There are only 3 HDD companies left.... and Toshiba is not in the 3.5" form factor (yet).
So when your WD Black dies, who will you buy a HDD from?

"In this business," DOAs and failing hardware is the norm. What happens when your WD drive fails you? You go to Toshiba. What happens when your Toshiba drive fails you? At that point, you're now out of options for HDDs. Your drive will fail someday -- there's no "ifs" here. Hard drives in general are completely unreliable, constantly failing technology -- they should never be trusted. If you care about your data, you should always have backups, and backups of your backups.
It is completely unreasonable to swear off a manufacturer because of one failed piece of equipment. Electronics are extremely delicate and can die inexplicably at any time. They are not built to last a lifetime.

Welcome to the present Seagate. I hope you know how to play catch up Seriously thou I always welcome more competition. Drive thous SSD prices down. As for Seagate reliability? I have had plenty of HDD's from them, the oldest being from 2004 and all still work so I have no problem with them.

Western Digital themselves don't even have a 1TB/platter drive IIRC if you don't include HGST (Hitachi). Seagate on the other hand does.

Competition is good and I can't deny their prices. However I have owned several WD drives that have worked flawless. Bought a 2TB Seagate for $79 a little while back and since then just bought a WD Green for $119 and am not upset over the price. The Seagate didn't want to format or be recognized by Windows, finally got it recognized and formatted after two days. The drive works but every time I turn my computer on I have to assign it a drive letter through drive management, annoying as hell! Several friends have had issues with Seagate, so we all stick to WD have had had 1 drive fail among the 5 of us in the past 8 years. Not saying Seagate is bad, but I had a horrible experience and will not go back. Will say the same for Kingston, never again will I buy their memory (4 sets 2x1GB sticks dead in a month, all new! Corsair, 4 sticks overclocked and running strong after 3-4 years. Just my
