Gtx 670 temps, what you pulling? - Page 4

Wow, it's a 3 slot monster! I like it smile.gif

That card should reach 1350mhz-1300mhz, and the triple fan/slot cooler should really help to mantain the boost!

EVGA 4gb SC
Ambient 22c
Switch 810 with a crap ton of airflow.
During BF3 65-70
Heaven 70-75.

Thinking of taking it apart and replacing the TIM with some noctua Nt-H1, any tips/advice?

I have never personally changed the paste/Tim on a gpu. But on the other hand I have heard a lot of people taking their heat sink off to find it never had full contact from the factory so it may be worth looking into. If the temperature are average to what everyone else is getting then I guess there's no point.

Well I was bored so I did it, and it was actually fairly simply. Unscrewed the screws, shroud came off, unplugged fan, and cleaned off the paste. I then put some noctua NT-H1, and replaced the fan plug, put the shroud back on, and screwed everything in. As soon as I booted into windows, I went straight to Precision to see it temps were crazy, but they weren't. After some testing, there was maybe 1-2c difference, but nothing to write home about. It stayed at around 73-74 in Unigen on my fan curve, and at 80% it was at 63-64c. I should note that I have unlocked the voltage somewhat on the card, which has eliminated the thermal throttling at 70c, so going over 70c isn't a problem for me.

At the end of the day, I would say go for it if you have the time and the paste. It will probably help others more than it helped me, and there is a small margin of error is you semi know what you're doing.

Interesting, but if I were to try lower the temps on a reference card, I would just buy an aftermarket cooler for it.

Also I've been told it takes a little time for the paste to set. Don't know if this effects anything.

How did you unlock the thermal throttling thing at 70º?

Yesterday was a hot day here, so my card's temp was around 70º.

I guess some major protection was activated last night after some hours playing Serious Sam 3, because FPS dropped from 70s to 16 and GPU clocks was reset to default values. Max temp reached was 75º. I'm thinking maybe VRMs got too hot. This has happened to me before with a GTX460 Hawk.

This.

FAQs.
It raises the voltage to 1.23mv, no higher.
No concrete evidence has been given to prove that the higher voltage is degrading to the card. Mine has been running it for a month or so, and it's running fine.
watch the video in the OP for installation tips.

Gainward 670 Reference card.

Core +70, Memory 220+ (no tweaking yet)
76-80C in BF3 @ Ultra settings with 1920x1080
Ambient temps around 23-28C I guess.

I feel like 80C is kinda high. I've been messing around with fan curves. Anyone got a really good one? The sweet spot between noise and cooling. I'm not bothered by a little noise, as I'm using headphones. But I'm definitely not putting the fan speed to 80% from 50C and up either, lol

Thanks!

I thought it was only for removing the thermal protection. I don't want to unlock voltages, but will check the video when I get home.
