[ExtremeTech]Diablo 3: The Blizzard sweatshop

Being plagued by gameplay, loot, and connectivity issues is bad enough — but, to put it bluntly, the addition of the RMAH simply ruined Diablo 3. Now whenever an item drops, instead of equipping it or giving it to a friend, you immediately think of its real money value. Now you don’t play the game for fun; you play for money.

More than that, though, Blizzard turned the entire userbase into an army of sweatshop slaves.

You see, on every single auction transaction, Blizzard takes a cut. For items, the cut is $1 (or the equivalent in your country). For commodities (gold, potions, gems) it’s 15%. It gets better!

I don't really see it like that tbh...
No one is forcing you to use the Real Money Auction House.
Secondly, players can make money from Diablo... How sweet is that?

If a very good and rare item drops you could sell it for gold which will become worthless when you stop playing.
Now you can sell it for money that can help you in your daily life.

Yes blizzard takes a cut and yes everything in this article is true but I still don't think it's a bad thing.

Total bull... Its only that way if you make it that way. Me and my friends ALWAYS give each other drops regardless of the value if its an upgrade.

The game is what you make of it and personally im having a lot of fun with it. Just because some people have this experience doesn't make them the majority.

Also do you hear people whining about ebay making profits from diablo 2 back in the day? All blizzard did was shift that source of money to them.

If they didn't make the money then someone else would and they still do anyway. If people were selling items on ebay instead of the rmah then no one would be complaining AT ALL. And ebay takes a much bigger cut.

The bottom line is i make money while i play a game.

Oh yeah if you don't want to use the RMAH then don't, no one is forcing you.

You know an article is great when they complain about the game being to easy and to hard in the same sentence.

This game would be EXTREMELY different if the RMAH didn't exist.

I think the normal gold auction is pretty cool, but this RMAH crap is just as the article describes. I think that blizz is trying to make this it's next "cash cow"

The concepts of RMAH is good but the execution is terribad, everything should be pennies not dollars.

It's just a shame that they spent time developing this while the actual gameplay mechanics (stat/skill building, interesting loot, and sidequests/optional sections) suffered. I absolutely loved old diablo. And I bought into the hype for Diablo 3, I trusted Blizz. There is where I made the mistake. You have my $60, I played through with my monk till lvl 60 and act 3 inferno. Blizz won't fool me again.

I haven't purchased anything since 1.03 but I did sell $310 worth of gear since then. So someone out there is still buying. My problem with the game isnt the real money auction house my problem is the boredom of kiting enemies. I do not find kiting fun at all. I dont mind it in boss fights with diablo and such since they are few and far between, but every elite mob is when I get bored and quit.
