Asus Maximus IV Extreme P67 slow to post?

From the time I press the power button on my tower to the time it posts to the splash screen is about 11 seconds, is this normal? When it does post to the splash screen, it's followed by a screen with a bunch of info about the Marvell SATA port, another ASUS splash screen, and finally a black screen with a single underscore.

This whole process takes about 38 seconds from initial boot to the screen where I enter my password for Windows, but I don't think it should be taking this long because my only boot option in my BIOS is my OCZ Vertex 4 128GB SSD in the Intel SATA 6GB port.

I have the Marvell port enabled because my 2 SSD's take up the Intel 6GB ports (set up in AHCI), and I use the Marvell 6GB for my HDD and CD drive.

Is there something I can do so the splash screen doesn't come up twice? I'm guessing the Marvell info screen will always come up because I have it enabled, but I don't think the splash screen should be popping up before and after this Marvell screen along with the random black screen with the underscore after the second splash screen.

Would be greatly appreciated if someone can shed some light on this. Let me know if you guys need any more info about this.

I've used that board twice and I kind of had the same complaint about it. For being such a high-end board you would think they'd minimize the time it takes to get past the splash screens. I didn't look to hard, but I didn't find a solution for it.

Yours takes that long to post too? I swear people have faster boot times with an old HDD and old mobo's for god sakes.

This board is like an F1 car, takes a bit to get going and once it does.... it's an animal.

I just wonder why the splash screen has to pop up twice, is there honestly a reason to this?

If I remember right you just have to disable all the extra rom booting options for all.

Also if I am remembering correctly (yes I'm lazy and don't wanna restart to verify) the options to disable them will be on the boot tab.

Should shave a good few seconds off.

Just to throw out there I'm logged in windows usually at or about 10 seconds after pressing power button. Only gave myself 2 secs to get into bios even.

PS. What Bios are you running?

What do you mean by disable all extra rom booting options? (Sorry, this is my first build. I'm still learning in's and out's of stuff, hoping you can clear this up for me.)

I'm running BIOS version 3208, if that's making any difference.

EDIT: I have Boot option #2 Disabled if that's what you mean.

I was wrong for the most part. You'll want to go to Advanced tab and go to Onboard Device Config and just verify all the OPROM's are disabled. Should have Intel 82583 PXE, Marvell Storage, JMB Storage, and Intel 82579 PXE Onboard OPROM's to disable. Don't disable the devices themselves, just the OPROM option.

Under Boot tab just verify Option Rom Messages is Force Bios and to help as well disable Full Screen Logo.

Hope that helps and cuts down some boot time for ya. smile.gif

Just to make sure, disabling the Marvell OPROM won't disable the port itself it'll just get rid of that screen that comes up with all that info about it after the first splash screen?

I only ask because I have to use the Marvell port for my HDD and CD drive, my 2 SSD's take up the Intel 6GB ports.

Correct, all you are doing is disabling the Optional Rom screen, hence just disable where it says OPROM. The option above each OPROM is for the device itself which you want to still be enabled.

I use all my sata ports as well and onboard lan ports etc. So no worries there. thumb.gif

P.S. Post back up and let us know if that helps a bit. No reason for that long of a boot time with this board.

Alright I disabled all OPROM's and when I disabled full screen logo it has a Post Report time of 5 seconds, should I leave it at that?
I dropped mine down to 2 seconds but do what is best for you and gives you time to get into UEFI/Bios when ya need it.

And with all that your boot times should get a bit better I hope.
