It is from your motherboard. I guess you only have a 2 PCIe slots mobo. Instead of the card working on a full 16x port, because of the "internal SLI" of the card, you're only getting 8x speed.

The 7970 is a single gpu card, so it will run on a full 16x bandwith, but it will not really benefit from it because it doesn't have the horsepower needed.

It all comes down to your needs.

Actually its because the memory bandwidth is derived from the memory bit... 256bit.

In product specs the memory bit is multiplied by 2, because 2x GPU's. 512bit.

GPU-Z reads each GPU individually, so it only sees a 256bit GPU.

No offense but if you're this inexperienced with graphics cards to be asking these questions, and can get a 7970 for a similar price ... I'd probably get that if I were you. Single GPU systems are a lot less complicated to operate thumb.gif

Also, Jacob's is the right answer. GPU-Z sees a 590 as though it were two separate cards, running in SLI. Which ... is basically exactly what it is. Only both 'cards' are on one board. You actually have two cards, each with 1.5GB of vram and 165GB/s bandwidth, not one 'card' with 3GB of vram and 330MB/s bandwidth. Dual GPU card marketing is pretty deceptive is the truth.

Although I'm pretty sure that each of those two cards has a wider bus than 256-bit ... I think Jacob's thinking of a 690 wink.gif
