I am copying the worklog from this build from another forum so there will be a lot of information in my first few posts (I started this project early in January of 2012). Hope you enjoy reading it and I welcome any feedback
Finally I am able to turn hours of research and dreaming up ideas into reality and begin my first worklog...
Please remember, I am only 19 years old and I'm still learning. I welcome and constructive critism in regards to my project
This is not the first PC I've built, I have been building PCs for a couple of years now, always focusing on as aesthetics as well as gaming performance. However this time, after inspiration from builds on MDPC (Million Dollar PC) I feel like letting my perfectionist and artistic sides loose and going all the way (well as much as my budget allows). With this build I do not only want to build a nice looking, extremely powerful gaming computer, I want to build a beautiful and unique system that I can be proud of even when the hardware becomes dated in a few years time.
One thing I would like to point out is yes I do want a powerful system for 5760x1200 gaming and maximum detail settings but I also want to create something beautiful
Enough babble, here are the components I intend on using in this build. They may change slightly but I have been researching the most suitable components to use in this build for months now so the list is almost certain. I will give brief reasons on why I chose each component.
Case: Dimastech Bench/Test Table EasyHard Dual V2.5 Graphite Black
I absolutely love this case, I chose it because not only is all your hardware visable, this case manages to ephasize the hardware even further. It looks menacing and has a very professional looking graphite black finish.
Motherboard: MSI 990FXA-GD80
The moment I saw this motherboard I fell in love with it's clean menacing looks, styled in black and blue, there could be no more perfect motherboard to use in my system. I chose to go with AMD purely because of the price of the entire system when compared to Intel. I am aware Intel Sandy Bridge is a better value for money option than anything AMD has to offer but lets just say over the years I have become a bit of an AMD fanboy and want to support them this time around.
CPU: AMD FX-8170 Black Edition Bulldozer 3.9GHz
Yes I am aware this particular processor has not yet been released however I feel the FX-8150, regardless of it's insane overclocking potential, does not perform upto the standard I want for my new build and I feel in certain titles it may become a bottleneck for my HD7970 Crossfire setup when gaming.
RAM: 2x 8GB Corsair DDR3 1866 CL9 Dominator GT
Initially I thought I would be forced to choose the slightly slower Dominator memory purely because of the blue sticker on the heatsink. But then I thought about removing the sticker altogether and getting a custom sticker made. I will also be removing the red heatsink fins as I will be mounting a block from EK in it's place.
GPU: 3x Saphirre ATI Radeon HD7970 GDDR5 3GB
When I heard the upcoming 7000 series cards from AMD were going to be manufactured in 28nm process I knew I had to get one (or two) for my new system. Also I have a triple monitor setup that I prefer running under AMD Eyefinity than Nvidia Surround.
SSD: 2x Corsair Force Series GT 120GB 2.5" SATA III in raid0
As with the RAM I was initially going to go with the slightly slower Force 3 drive from Corsair so it would match the colour scheme of my system. I recently had an idea of removing the sticker and taking the case of the drive to the powder coaters and get the casing painted black
PSU: Corsair AX1200 Gold Professional Series Modular 1200W Power Supply.
Who wouldn't want one of these in their system? As always, pure perfection from Corsair, should be enough power for all three HD7970s and the FX-8170 all overclocked to their limits
The components for my watercooling loop have changed drastically since my first plan (I ended up needing a lot more fittings than I first expected) but that is what I planned initially.
EK-Supreme HF - Full Nickel
3x EK-FC7970 - Nickel
2x EK-CoolStream RAD XT (360)
EK-DCP 4.0 (12V DC Pump)
EK-Reservoir Combo DCP 4.0
14x EK-PSC Fitting 13mm - G1/4 Black
6x EK-PSC Adapter 45° G1/4 Black
2x EK-PLUG G1/4
1x EK-PSC Adapter 90° G1/4 Black

Finally I am able to turn hours of research and dreaming up ideas into reality and begin my first worklog...
