AMD A8-3870k APU benchmarked, with and without 6670 dual graphics.

Thread Starter
So this thread is dedicated to A8-3870k/A6-3670K Benchmarks, and in game performance. Tested first only with the iGP on chip, then with the 6670 in "Dual Graphics" mode.

Here is a sample build (without case) cost and parts.

A8-3870k...............................................$119

BioStar MotherBoard with HS VRM's..............$69.99

Rosewill 400w PSU......................................$34.99

PNY 4GB DDR3 1600MHz cas 8.....................$27.99

HIS HD 6670 1GB DDR5...............................$79.99

OCZ Solid 3 60GB SSD................................$59.99

..................................................................Total = 392.94

(You could get price under $300 if you exclude HD 6670, and ability to overclock)

A8-3870K has slight OC of 3.2GHz but base clock is same so GPU is stock clocks.

CPU

Game performance just APU alone, fraps in corner.

338
1600 x 900 all low settings, 32 man server, and when good fire fights drops to a low of 35

338
Portal 2 All settings maxed out, at 1600 x 900 res.

338
StarCraft 2 "Zillion Zerglings mod" Medium settings, medium battle, 1600 x 900

A8-3870K With 6670 in Dual Graphics Mode (Click to show)
700
Maxed out settings except no tessellation, 1600 x 900

700
Just GPU cinebench as CPU is unchanged.

338
BFBC2 really likes dual graphics, running at over 100FPS 90FPS with heavy fighting

338
Portal 2 maxed out.

338
Starcraft 2 Medium settings.

Metro 2033 on lowest settings, struggles quite a bit as you can see here.

Another screenshot here:

At parts it seems to dip into the mid to low 30's. its playable for the most part, but definitely lackluster performance.

ADDED: A6-3670K Benchmarked with and without 6670. Compliments of

Reduce AA and AF to something reasonable for your GPUs, like maybe 4x/8x, or even 2x/4x. See if it drastically raises up the FPS compared to how much clarity you lose or even notice Also set tessellation to AMD optimized, so that you get some better eye candy, but not too much to hurt performance..

Just to add, the 6550D is excellent at SYNTHETIC BENCHES ONLY. It's much worse than a 4870 in practice, trust me. Look on futuremark's results too and you'll see that AMD boosted synthetic bench results to make people want it more. It's almost as bad as my laptop's integrated intel GMA 4500...

The purpose of llano is for affordable gaming laptops. Also very good for the value-oriented desktops you would find at walmart. It does what it is supposed to do and does it very well and very cheap.

If I was buying a gaming laptop, the A8 would be on my list.

Let's see your benches to back-up that statement please.

Who said anything about a 4870? It beats the mobility 4870 and the dedicated 4850.

Ok lets keep it clean in here folks. I am not saying anything negative about anything else, just giving my results with the APU both alone and in dual graphics mode.

There is no need to debate anything or throw up your cards business. I dont care what you have all I am doing is providing a page dedicated to llano performance. So others can make a choice based off of my results.

As for saying its an okay Walmart rig, its more than just that and has played plenty of games perfectly fine.

As for saying a intel gma is better, you are horribly misinformed sir. If you feel you are correct I advice you to start your own thread in the Intel section.

Thanks and now back to the llano benches, I am working on doing some game benches next to post. Please lets keep this professional people. thumb.gif

Just to note in case you don't know, you can't crossfire 6670's. The most you can get from the integrated APU graphics is by pairing it with one HD 6670. 6670's don't support crossfire anyway. Obviously if you want more you should just get a better CPU/GPU/everything.
