Prices of DX9

Thread Starter
Nothing big but, how much did DX9 cards cost when they were out? I'm sure someone remembers!

Did it cost as much as DX10 cards do now?

Weird question.

High end graphics cards have been steadily increasing in price... So probably not too horribly much, but now... Cant say that.

DX 9 cards were about $500-$600 on average for the top-of-the-line model. Some cards, such as some 7800GTXs, went for as much as $700+.

DX10 looks a little higher, with some people going as far as saying up to $1000 for the top model nvidia 8800 card. nVidia has yet to announce an actual MSRP, though. Same with ATI.

Same here. When it comes to price, ATI has always delivered great hardware at a decent price - even if not immediately. They'll talk soon enough, especially with rumors of nVidia's DX10 offering being available in 3 weeks.

nVidia is losing their grip on the market, anyway. Between the 8-series video cards' projected prices and their pricey RSX PS3 graphics solution (production costs may rival the infamous CELL processors'), nVidia stands to lose money and respect amongst gamers.
