Lets see if they are any good then. If not I'm going to just move to Intel for desktops.

I mean it is good if they can compete cause then intel will actually be pressured somewhat to release haswell sooner/on time. Although didn't AMD themselved say they aren't competing with intel anymore (at least on the desktop)?

In this instance, there's already 3rd party reviews of the Piledriver architecture. The question is not whether it's a somewhat significant improvement -- that much is confirmed -- but how much is it improving when they move to a 4 module design with L3? What does the overclocking look like?

It's not everyday you have a marketing guy feeding you "facts" that turn out not to be true. I think a lot of people have learned their lesson.

And no one is saying that IPC doesn't matter. They're saying that IPC is just one part of the entire equation, not the whole thing, with clock speed being the other part.

should be change to executing pre second.

And yes. IPC is pretty worthless on its own. You could have a chip that could run 4 IPC, yet only clock to 2GHz, and be reduced to dust by a chip with 3 IPC yet capable of running at 3GHz.
OR you could have both, and there you go Nehalem. That was a cult architecture. Probably in the scale of Athlon64.

this still doesn't matter.
Phenom II has high IPC, but fails to execute a lot of it.

Right, Thuban kind of proved a big dies isn't a totally bad idea.

Piledriver's on the same 32nm process, so clock speed won't be considering considerably, and a lot of the headroom provided by RCM and the reworked flip flops is going to go towards power reduction. If clock speed is essentially known, what else is there to hope for?

Most reviews put clock speed and OVer clock with how much wattage they use
Performance/watt.

Sent from my HTC Sensation XE using Tapatalk 2

actually no one does because cores don't have IPC or IPS

as the man stated above in here the IPC is STATIC, cores "EXECUTE" IPC.

a good example is how bulldozer module have the same size 64Kbytes as L1I cache as a single Phenom II core. Two cores to EXECUTE twice as many as instructions as a Phenom II core could do. This improve Throughput for the core.

an another example is Hyperthreading is counted as IPC because they core is executing the extra Thread.
Forget the review but they showed FX problem was cache misses and not latency They where showing IPC for the 2600K with Hythreading off and on and showed an increase of 0.4. So basically is execute about 40% more pre core then with out it.

The biggest way to improve a chip is to make in more efficient in executing.

More then anyone in this thread, saying IPC is not as important as IPS is stupid, they're both related with IPC being the most important factor of all.

When AMD released the Athlon 64 it had a much higher IPC then the Pentium which resulted in Intel ultimatly trying to clock the living tits off the Pentium 4 to make up for the complete lack of IPC.

Now lets change a few words around....

When Intel released Sandy Bridge it had a much higher IPC then Bulldozer which resulted in AMDultimatly trying to clock the living tits off the Bulldozer to make up for the complete lack of IPC.

De ja vu anyone?
