Asus GTX 690 Pics + FPS drop issue

Thread Starter
Well..
I was playing some HON (don't laugh) and every once and a while I would drop from 60 (vsync on) to 30's.
This is a game that I could run max back on one 6870. Then still max with two.
I know this should be less than a cakewalk for this card.

I had it slightly overclocked at the time and I pulled them off but it would still happen here and there. It was weird though because if I alt tabbed out to the desktop and then re-opened the game it would jump back to 60 and stay there. I played an hour long game and this happened twice. Alt tabbed and it fixed it. I have the newest drivers. The card is less than 4 hours old.

update: seems to happen less and less. Just need more time to diagnose. I think the card is fine.

This is exactly what I have to do when I play Crysis 2.  If I don't Alt+Tab out and back in before I actually play, then I don't get liquid-smooth performance.  I thought it was just Crysis 2.

So far, it seems to me that this is normal for Crysis 2, but HON?  I don't know; maybe.  I mean, it sounds like it's the same thing, whatever it is.

Go in your nvidia control panel and select "prefer maximum performance" for power management

Running adaptive v-sync (forcing it from NVCP) instead of in-game v-sync may fix the drops to 30fps. It may not stop you from dipping under 60fps at times, but at least maybe it won't be as noticeable when it happens.

I just find it strange that it would drop like that..?
I changed the power setting this morning and played some Starcraft 2. Another game that should run no problems. Played for about 30 minutes but right near the start I was running at 35 fps. Alt tabbed and came back in to rocket to 180fps.

this was happening on my 480 SLI setup as well but with dota 2 and diablo 3. for some reason I can't have 60fps constant with v-sync on. it dips down as low as 40fps although intermittently. once I updated to the latest beta drivers 304.48 the problem was fixed and I had constant fps again. try it

This.

If it doesn't work, then at that point I would say that it would be time to just think of Alt+Tabbing out and back in as normal.  It's become so normal for me in Crysis 2 that I don't even have to think about it:  I sometimes even forget that I did it and then I have to verify it by just paying close attention to my performance in areas where I know it would otherwise be sluggish.

I don't know what would (or could) cause this, but I'd rather be able to have this workaround instead of not having any way to get away from it.

Precision X shows that nothing abnormal is happening. Doesn't seem to matter what graphical settings I apply. Maximum performance is preferred in the Nvidia console.
This is the easiest game by far to run out of my collection but by far runs the worst.

1 6870 was outdoing this by leagues when I had it. Posted over in the HON forums but no one there seems to know what it could be. The only other progress I have made it that it seems to affect Kepler GPU's, running poorly on all of them. I am on the latest beta drivers that did nothing to help.

Also might as well update with the new case since the OP shows the old stuff.
