Help Fried CPU? 0.0

Well my friend built his new computer with a i7 3820 and a G1 assassin2 and being the unexperienced person he is didnt know the cpu had a heatsink and turned on the computer. It turned off in 3 seconds and he didnt know what was causing it. Well i told him to get a heat sink and now has a h100 and the computer goes into on-off loops. I know theres a high chance that the cpu is done for but i would atleast get some input from the community. Any answer is a good answer.

I dont think it would just die like that. I have run chips without heatsinks and when it hits tjmax usually 105c it just shuts off. What kills processor most of the time is voltage. I would try updating the bios of the motherboard. Also try with just 1 ram stick. Just go through the usual troubleshooting list and see if it really is the cpu. Good luck thumb.gif

Generally Intel is very good with shutting itself off when it hits the thermal limit to protect itself. Has he hooked the cooler up correctly? Tested with one stick of ram? I would try and rule everything out before calling it dead.
