Hello,
looking for some advice here.. I moved from UK to Norway, so getting hardware is actually somewhat hard compared to how spoilt I was in the UK with my nextday delivery, and abundance of online CHEAP stores.
Couple of days ago, BIOS alerted me via S.M.A.R.T of a predicted failure, backup and replace immediately. Fair enough, I've gone ahead and mirrored the drive in question and I'm ready for it to fail.
From HD Sentinel:
Failure Predicted - Attribute: 1 Raw Read Error Rate, Errors occurred while reading raw data from a disk. Indicate problem with the disk surface or the read/write heads.
There are 825 weak sectors found on the disk surface. They may be remapped any time in the later use of the disk.
Replace hard disk immediately.
It is recommended to backup immediately to prevent data loss.
I've had this drive powered on for a total of 366 days and 10 hours. It's fair to say, I've owned it for maybe 1 and a half years now. The question is, can anyone give me a guess as to when and if it will fail in the very near future? I've read in some threads that one raw read error isn't enough, and so forth. However, I've had a lot of CRC errors lately. Defragged, CHKDSK many times but the drive doesn't seem to be doing all that well, for obvious reasons! If anyone has some insight into when it might fail, how fast I need to get a replacement and so forth I'd be very thankful!
I just have no idea how serious it is, and if it can live on for another month or two or if it's an immediate replacement.
Thanks!
